  • The present study investigated the effects of organic and plastic mulching on root development and nodulation related biometric properties of cowpea determined at different stages of crop growth (60 DAS and at harvest after 90 DAS). At 60 DAS and 90 DAS (at harvest stage), majority of the root development parameters such as root length, number of secondary roots/lateral roots, root weight with nodules, root weight without nodules were recorded highest in plants grown under organic mulch treatments with different level of drip irrigation.

  • The developed implement was operated by the mini-tractor using three-point hitch, it performs both the operations of installation and retrieval of drip line. The performance was evaluated on the basis of various field parameters, operating parameters and performance parameters. The experiment was carried out in F-RBD design having two factors and four replications with three different levels of each factor. The factors namely spool rotation (35-53, 53-71 and 71-89 rpm) and forward speed (2.03.0, 3.0-4.0 and 4.0-5.0 kmph) were taken for an experiment.

  • The mini-tractor operated drip lateral installer and retriever was fabricated at department of farm machinery and power engineering, CAET, Junagadh agricultural university, Junagadh. A drip line installer and retriever were developed for small fields. One operator can install drip line on or just beneath the soil surface to precisely irrigate crops after planting and retrieve the drip line after irrigation is no longer needed for the season.

  • Hypoxia causes injury and yield loss. Soil aeration has been reported to accelerate the growth of plants and increase crop yield. The aim of this study was to examine growth response of greenhouse-produced muskmelon to 3 levels of sub-surface drip irrigation (I), 3 different installation depths of drip laterals in the soil (D), and 4 levels of supplemental soil aeration frequency (A).

  • Rapid urbanization and industrialization have increased the pressure on limited existing fresh water to meet the growing needs for food production. To immediate responses to this challenge is the efficient use of irrigation technology. Drip irrigation methods may play an important role in efficient use of water but there is still limited information on their use on wheat crops. An experiment was conducted in Split-split plot design to evaluate the effects of irrigation method under different lateral and emitter spacing on wheat yield, and irrigation water use efficiency (IWUE).

  • The study was conducted at Technology Park (Plasticulture Farm) of CTAE, Udaipur, Rajasthan to evaluate performance of automated and conventional drip system for okra crop during year 2019. The Uniformity Coefficient (CU), Distribution Characteristic (DC) and Emission Uniformity (EU) were found to be highest at the head and decreases with increase in distance along the lateral for both irrigation systems. It was found that the average values of all evaluation parameters except DC, were found to be highest for automated drip system.

  • The main concept of drip irrigation is to create a continuous wetted strip directly beneath the soil where the active roots are concentrated. The fertigation allows application of right amounts of plant nutrients uniformly to the wetted root zone. A field experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of different fertigation levels and depth of laterals under plastic mulch on the performance of Amaranthus (Amaranthus hypochondriacu, variety: kannara local). The yield showed significant difference with different levels of fertigation and depth of laterals.

  • There has been a growing gap between the demand for maize and its supply. One of the reasons often attributed to decline in maize productivity is poor production practices, awareness and characterized by low use of modern inputs. In order to avoid the lack of all the above to assess the current levels of technical efficiency of maize cultivation like spacing of Maize cultivation with effective management of irrigation practices could be taken as a study.

  • This paper presents a prediction model developed using dimensional analysis for friction losses in drip irrigation laterals. Drip irrigation laterals with cylindrical type in-line emitters placed at different spacings ranging from 0.2 to 1 m were considered.

  • For many years microbiologists believed that the tissues of healthy animals normally contained bacteria (Reith, 1926; Ingram, 1972). These ‘intrinsic’ bacteria were the cause of phenomena such as ‘bone taint’. The cause of bone taint is still questioned and will be discussed later. The prevailing view of the majority of textbooks (Banwart, 1989;Varnam and Sutherland, 1995), based in part on the work of Gill (Gill, 1979, 1980) is that the meat of a healthy animal is essentially sterile.
