Heat shock proteins (Hsps), also known as stress proteins, are expressed by living organisms. Hsp genes play key roles in the regulation of change in response to various abiotic stresses (e.g., salinity, drought, heavy metal, and extreme temperatures). In our previous studies, all Hsp family gene members were determined and named using bioinformatics approaches. We also examined their expression profiles under different stress conditions.

Trees such as Populus are planted extensively for reforestation and afforestation. However, their successful establishment greatly depends upon ambient environmental conditions and their relative resistance to abiotic and biotic stresses. Polyphenol oxidase (PPO) is a ubiquitous metalloproteinase in plants, which plays crucial roles in mediating plant resistance against biotic and abiotic stresses.

Pentatricopeptide-repeat proteins (PPRs) are characterized by tandem arrays of a degenerate 35-aminoacid (PPR motifs), which can bind RNA strands and participate in post-transcription. PPR proteins family is one of the largest families in land plants and play important roles in organelle RNA metabolism and plant development. However, the functions of PPR genes involved in biotic and abiotic stresses of rice (Oryza sativa L.) remain largely unknown.

Controlled turnover of proteins as mediated by the ubiquitin proteasome system (UPS) is an important element in plant defense against environmental and pathogen stresses. E3 ligases play a central role in subjecting proteins to hydrolysis by the UPS.

Droughts happen when there is not enough rainfall for a longer period of time. When there is so little precipitation (rainfall, snow etc.) the whole region starts to dry out. Sometimes a drought take decades to develop fully and they are very difficult to predict. Rainfall data of 15 years (2001-2015) based on standard weeks was analyzed for Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh.

One of the basic requirements in hybrid seed production is the optimum planting ratio of pollen parent to seed parent to get good seed set. Also, the pattern of planting contributes substantially for the uniform supply of pollen to all the seed parent rows.

The study the drought pattern during pre and post global warming behind for different districts of Chhattisgarh the drought pattern in the back drop of climate change due to global warming was examined. It is very clear from the analysis that the number drought years in a 40 years period had drastically increased during post global warming period (1971-2010) as compared to pre global warming period. This a clear evidence of the impact of regional climate changes due to global warming on the rainfall pattern in all the districts of Chhattisgarh state.

A field experiment was conducted in vertisols in varying rainfall patterns during 2013, 2014 seasons at ICAR-Central Institute for Cotton Research farm, Nagpur. The main objective of this study was to advice the farmers in varying rainfall patterns on reduce their weed management cost through early post emergence graminicides. Farmers should carefully follow weather CICR weather advisory on cotton cultivation a weekly web bulletin.

Drought is universally acknowledged as a phenomenon associated with scarcity of water. The Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) expresses the actual rainfall as standardized departure from rainfall probability distribution function. In this study severity and spatial pattern of meteorological drought was analyzed in the Anantapuramu District, Andhra Pradesh, India using multi-temporal SPI.

Plants respond to abiotic stress on physiological, biochemical and molecular levels. This includes a global change in their cellular proteome achieved by changes in the pattern of their protein synthesis and degradation. The ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) is a key player in protein degradation in eukaryotes.

The present study was conducted in Ananthapur district of Andhra Pradesh to study the profile characteristics and Information Source Utilization Pattern of rain fed groundnut farmers. Ananathapur farmers are largely dependent on drought-prone, rain-fed agriculture; and mostly a single crop of groundnut is sown in about 8 lakh ha under such harsh and agro climatic conditions. Of its geographical area of 19, 13,000 ha, (largest in AP) 10, 00,000 ha are rain-fed. The present state of A.P has totally about 40 lakh ha under rain fed cultivation and 25% of it is in Ananathapur district.

Foxtail millet (Setaria italica L. P. Beauv) has been considered as a tractable model crop in recent years due to its short growing cycle, lower amount of repetitive DNA, inbreeding nature, small diploid genome, and outstanding abiotic stress-tolerance characteristics.

The present study deals with the potential of using precipitation-based Standardized Precipitation Index to analyse the temporal pattern of drought in South Kashmir area of Jammu and Kashmir. Monthly precipitation data from 1980 to 2017 for Anantnag region were used to compute Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) values. The computation of SPI series was done for short, intermediate as well as for long time scales. Analysis of SPI values were done to study the temporal patterns of drought occurrence. The drought severity and duration were also estimated.

Cropping pattern refers to the proportion of area under different crops at any given point of time in a unit area, or the yearly sequence or spatial arrangement of crops on a given area. An attempt was made to compare the cropping pattern followed by the members and nonmembers of Water Users’ Associations in Upper Krishna Project command area. The Upper Krishna Project (UKP) is one of the major projects in Karnataka and is the most prestigious multipurpose (irrigation and power) project. It is the economic lifeline of chronically drought hit districts of North Karnataka.

Rice is one of the important cereal crops and more than half of the world population is dependent on Rice as staple food. Rice cultivation is affected by various abiotic stresses like drought, salinity, cold etc. Universal Stress Proteins (USPs) are conserved proteins found across the plant, animals, fungi and bacteria. USPs are reported to be involved in various abiotic stress responses. In this study we have identified 43 USP genes in rice, distributed across the chromosome.

Pigeonpea is an essential staple pulse crop in the Indian sub-continent. Being drought tolerant and hardy, it is favourable crop for resource poor farmers. Its long maturity duration is a constraint as it gets affected by many abiotic and biotic stresses during its crop duration. An idea about the flowering and maturity patterns in pigeonpea will be helpful to get better insights for the improvement of these traits in the crop. The present study presents statistical analysis of days to 50% flowering (DFF) and days to 75% maturity (DM) in pigeonpea genotypes. The mean DFF and DM are 121.

Meteorological drought is a natural hazard that can occur under all climatic regimes. Monitoring the drought is a vital and important part of predicting and analyzing drought impacts. In the present study, monthly time series of rainfall data (1980–2016) from five stations were used to derive SPI, particularly at 3-month time scales. This 3-month SPI was interpolated to depict temporal patterns of meteorological drought and its severity during 2014 and 2016 years. SPI was more efficient than departure in spatial analysis of drought.
