Interaction and genetic control for traits influencing the adaptation of the rice crop to varying environments was studied in a mapping population derived from parents (Moroberekan and Swarna) contrasting for drought tolerance, yield potential, lodging resistance, and adaptation to dry direct seeding.

The precision "Systematic and quantitative evaluation of rice drought tolerance and construction of high throughput screening platform" identification and evaluation of rice drought resistance always is the key problem for succession of drought resistance study and breeding. We found that grain yield-related traits of rice have ecological effect with soil moisture conditions. Therefore, gradient and quantitative water controlling (GQWC) experiment was carried out in order to study the evaluation system of rice drought tolerance.

Cotton is more resistant to salt and drought stresses as compared to other field crops, which makes itself as a pioneer industrial crop in saline-alkali lands. However, abiotic stresses still negatively affect its growth and development significantly.

Nitraria tangutorum is an important desert shrub that shows resistance to drought, salt and wind erosion stresses. It is a central ecological species in its area. Here, we have studied how N. tangutorum has adapted to achieve a successful reproduction strategy.

In the present scenario of climate change, temperature rise leads to reduction in the yield of millets whereas irregular rainfall adds to this reduction with a negative impact. QTL mapping for different drought tolerance genes in millets will be helpful for breeding climate resilient genotypes. Similarly QTLs for significant general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) for several yield related traits under stress will also proved to be beneficial for breeding for climate resilience.

The phenomenon of stay-green and root traits are most important in drought tolerance breeding. The present investigation was conducted to identify the drought resistant staygreen genotypes with desirable root traits which are essential to extract moisture from deeper layers of the soil under drought conditions. Seven stay-green genotypes along with three non-staygreen checks were evaluated for root traits in PVP pipes with different soil moisture regimes under Factorial RBD design with two replications.

Rice is the most widely consumed staple food in India and a large part of the world's human population, especially in Asia. In this review we discussed about the Morphological and molecular mechanisms for drought tolerance in rice. Rice requires high temperature above 200C but not more than 35 to 400C. The lots of work have been done in this area to find out the cultivars, resistance to drought.

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is one of the most important staple foods for more than half the world’s population and influences the livelihoods and economies of several billion people. Drought stress is the major constraint to rice production and yield stability in rainfed ecosystems. Efforts have been made to identify putative traits, which can confer drought resistance in rice grown under rainfed lowland.

Both biotic and abiotic stresses are major constrains to agricultural production. Under stress conditions, plant growth is affected by a number of factors such as hormonal and nutritional imbalance, ion toxicity, physiological disorders, susceptibility to diseases, etc. Plant growth under stress conditions may be enhanced by the application of microbial inoculation including plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR).

Upland rice grows on 19 million ha, about 15% of the world's rice plantation [2]. The production of upland rice is crucial to agricultural economy of many countries [15]. The yield of upland rice is very low with an average of about 1 t/ha. Drought is a major constraint to the productivity of upland rice.

Gossypium anomalum (BB genome) possesses the desirable characteristics of drought tolerance, resistance to diseases and insect pests, and the potential for high quality fibers. However, it is difficult to transfer the genes associated with these desirable traits into cultivated cotton (G. hirsutum, AADD genome).

With the change in the global scenario drought is becoming one of the major problem among other stress and its effect is more severe in rice whose life cycle completely depends on water. Whether it occurs during any stage (early, intermittent and late) it affects crop and its effect is more severe when this stress coincides with reproductive stage of the crop growth. However, rice respond to it by sending signals to shoot which generates signals in terms of physical, chemical and biological form. Hence, screening of plants at this stage is most effective for development of drought resistance.

Drought stress at flowering stage in upland rice is most damaging cause of yield reduction. Impact of drought stress at flowering stage on morphological, physiological and biochemical traits, yield and yield components are less understood. Present experiment was executed in pots under glass house conditions by taking six upland rice varieties namely Bagri, Nankawa, Bakaiya, N-22, Ashoka-228 and NDR-97.

Variation in drought resistance and its relationship with adaptive and physiological traits in forest trees are important in choosing suitable seed sources for reforestation and afforestation programs. A common garden experiment using 240 half-sib families originating from coastal and inland populations of Turkish red pine (Pinus brutia) in Turkey was set up with three replicates.

A number of physiological traits have been proposed as selection criteria for late drought resistance and grain yield improvement in wheat. To characterize them in terms of late drought resistance, 64 bread wheat genotypes were evaluated for canopy temperature difference (CTD), leaf senescence rate (LSR), SPAD chlorophyll value.

Peanut production areas frequently suffer from drought, which can cause severe yield losses, increased aflatoxin, and compositional changes in seed. Midseason drought is generally the most detrimental to seed yields and in altering seed protein composition.

Different peanut yields under terminal drought might be due to the different nutrient uptakes among peanut genotypes. Nutrient uptake was presumed to be a drought-resistant trait and might involve drought tolerance mechanisms. The aims of this study, therefore, were to characterize the effect of terminal drought on peanut nutrient uptake and to investigate the genotypic variability of nutrient uptake and its interactions with terminal drought.
