Drudgery prone activities

A study was conducted in Ratlam distict of Madhya Pradesh. Naveen, Vaibhav and Local sickle evaluated for harvesting wheat crop with 30 farm women. Harvesting is a main drudgery prone activity which is mostly done by farm women and to solve this problem Krishi Vigyan Kendra Ratlam, as per its mandate conducted front line demonstration on “Improved Sickle” in wheat Harvesting.

In Indian agricultural farming, numerous drudgery prone activities are involved. Rice uprooting and transplanting are the most common example of these kinds of drudgery prone activities. Indian farmers are highly associated with these tasks and they perform a sequential work through manual efforts. In some areas of India, the improved method of uprooting and transplanting are being used but due to lack of awareness and information manual performance of these activities are much common.

Green gram cultivation is one of the major seasonal legume crop of Bihar & most of its activities are performed by women. The present study was carried out to assess the drudgery prone activities performed by farmwomen in Green Gram cultivation. The study was conducted in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar in two randomly selected villages Harshingpur Lautan and Shadikpur Muraul of Muraul Block. A sample size of 80 females were involved in green gram cultivation in Bihar were selected by probability proportionate to size method. The data were collected based on interview-cum-observation method.

Vegetable transplanting is a laborious, time consuming and drudgery prone field operation task when performed manually by farm women for almost all crops grown. This directs for interventions in terms of improved technologies to relieve women from high energy demands, time spent and associated drudgery particularly for transplanting activity. To resolve this problem Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kalikiri, conducted on farm trial on use of easy transplanter to prove the efficacy of improved technology in reducing drudgery among women engaged in transplanting activity in tomato seedlings.
