Survivors of moderate and severe traumatic brain injury typically present with spasticity, an upper motor neuron lesion associated with hyperexcitability of the stretch reflex due to disinhibition of cortical influences on spinal cord circuits and structural and functional changes in skeletal muscle.

The essential oils from the needles and branch of the Abies delaveyi subsp. fansipanensis was collected in Hoang Lien Natural Park, Lao Cai province and was obtained by steam distilation and the yields of essential oils were 0.27% and 0.08% from air-dry material. By the using GC/MS analysis, there are 44 and 52 constituents from needles and branch were identified and accounting 97.75% and 96.86% essential oil.

The relevance of local twitch response (LTR) during dry needling technique (DNT) is controversial, and it is questioned whether LTR is necessary for successful outcomes. Furthermore, because the LTR during the deep DNT may be evoked with different intensities, it is unknown whether the magnitude of LTR intensity is associated with optimal clinical results, especially concerning to the effects of joint maximal range of motion (ROM).

Shoulder pain of musculoskeletal origin is the main cause of upper limb pain of non-traumatic origin. Despite being one of the most common reasons for consultation, there is no established protocol for treatment due to the complexity of its etiology.

A great number of patients have difficulty swallowing or needle fear. Therefore, buccal and orodispersible dosage forms (ODFs) represent an important strategy to enhance patient compliance. Besides not requiring water intake, swallowing or needles, these dosage forms allow drug release modulation. ODFs include oral lyophilizates or wafers, which present even faster disintegration than its compressed counterparts. Lyophilization can also produce buccal wafers that adhere to mucosa for sustained drug release.

Trees absorb pollutants through the same process they take up nutrients, i.e. stomata (pores on the surface of the leaf), roots and root hairs. Additional pollution is removed by capture on their leaf/needle and bark surfaces. Taylor and Constable (1994) estimated for SO2 and O3 that 70% and 80% of the pollution absorbed is internal to the leaf. For particulates, the main wet absorption route is through tree roots (Broadmeadow and Freer-Smith, 1996), whereas the main dry absorption route is through deposition on leaf and bark surfaces.

Serous or “body cavity fluids” are usually collected with aseptic technique by needle puncture and aspiration of the body cavity fluid. Methods for obtaining the specimen vary depending upon the site. Fluids are best collected into a dry container and submitted in the fresh state to the laboratory. 7 Adding 3-5 IU heparin/mL to a container prior to obtaining a bloody sample will usually inhibit clotting and not adversely affect morphology. If delay in transportation to the laboratory is unavoidable, most fluids may be kept refrigerated (4ºC) up to 72 hours.

An ideal aspirate is of creamy consistency with numerous cells suspended in a small amount of tissue fluid without admixture with blood. Such aspirates are smeared immediately using another slide or cover slip or with the needle itself and dropped into the fixative. At the beginning of the smearing process, while the material is still in a drop on the slide, the surface area for evaporation is relatively small and hence a short delay will not cause significant air-drying.

Immediately after withdrawing, detach the needle, draw air into the syringe, reattach the needle and express the material in the needle onto a slide. Needle tip is brought into light contact with the slide and the aspirate is carefully expressed without spraying into the air, which can cause air-drying and also can form aerosols, which are potentially infectious. Preparing proper smears is critical for the end results. No matter how expertly the aspiration is performed, if the slides are not interpretable, the procedure is totally worthless for cytologic diagnosis.
