Vaccine-induced thrombotic thrombocytopenia is associated with the coronavirus disease 2019 vaccines. It has been reported by vector-based vaccines. To the best of our knowledge, there is no report about vaccineinduced thrombotic thrombocytopenia in whole-virus vaccines. We are presenting the first case of vaccine-induced thrombotic thrombocytopenia with this type of vaccine.

Drug-drug interactions (DDIs) are highly prevalent in older patients but little is known about prevalence of DDIs over time. Our main objective was to assess changes in the prevalence and characteristics of drug-drug interactions (DDIs) during a one-year period after hospital admission in older people, and associated risk factors.

The purpose of this study is to assess whether the application of preoperative forced air warming set to high temperature (> 43 °C) for brief period can increase temperature on admission to the postanesthesia care unit (PACU) and prevent hypothermia or shivering during holmium laser enucleation of the prostate performed under spinal anesthesia.

The prognosis of hospitalized patients after emergent endotracheal intubation (ETI) remains poor. Our aim was to evaluate the 30-d hospitalization mortality of subjects undergoing ETI during daytime or off-hours and to analyze the possible risk factors affecting mortality.

This study investigated the associations of fluctuations in serum chloride (Cl−) levels with 30-day mortality after intensive care unit (ICU) admission among critically ill patients. A fluctuation in the Cl− level during the first 72 h of an ICU stay was found to associate independently with increased 30-day mortality among critically ill adult patients.

Soluble CD40 ligand (sCD40L) exhibits proinflammatory and procoagulant effects. Recent data indicated that sCD40L plays a significant role in septic patients. The aim of the present study was to determine sCD40L changes in surgical patients without sepsis (SWS) and surgical sepsis patients (SS) during the first 3 days after intensive care unit (ICU) admission and to observe the association between sCD40L and mortality.

Low handgrip strength (HGS) is independently associated with a higher exacerbation risk in stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); however, the relationship between HGS while being admitted for COPD exacerbation and further exacerbation risk after discharge remains unclear.

Length of hospital stay (LOS) in patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is variable and directly related to medical costs. Accurate estimation of LOS on admission and during follow-up may result in earlier and more efficient discharge strategies.

Sepsis is still one of the main causes of infants and children mortality especially in developing, economically challenged countries with limited resources. Our objective in this study was to determine, the prognostic value of platelet count, mean platelet volume (MPV), platelet distribution width (PDW) and plateletcrit (PCT) in critically ill infants and children with severe sepsis, as they are readily available biomarkers, that can guide clinicians during managing of severe sepsis.

The present investigation was carried out to assess the efficacy of novel transcervical allantocentesis to drain allantoic fluid along with medical termination of pregnancy to treat hydrallantois affected cows. A total of seven crossbred cows were treated by this method. All the cows had clinical signs like severe bilaterally distended abdomen, respiratory distress, expiratory grunt and difficulty in walking during admission due to excessive allantoic fluid accumulation.

Children with medical complexity (CMC) account for an increasing proportion of pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) admissions across North America. Their risk of unscheduled PICU admission is three fold compared to healthy children, and they are at higher risk of prolonged length of stay and PICU mortality.

This report describes a two-year-old Arab descent female presenting with a history of highgrade fever of 2 days duration with non-specific signs of viral illness and erythematous rash. The patients’ condition deteriorated rapidly requiring admission to intensive care unit. In the intensive care unit, she developed a right upper quadrant mass that was diagnosed as hydrops of the gallbladder by ultrasonography.

The supply of breast milk to preterm infants tends to occur at a lower rate than that recorded among term infants. We aimed to investigate the facilitators of and barriers to breastfeeding during hospital stay according to the experiences of mothers that gave birth to premature infants requiring admission to neonatal intensive care unit.
