Broilers are continuously stressed because of the rapid growth rate and the environmental issues associated with industrialized poultry production systems, which lead to higher susceptibility for infection with pathogens. It is well known that vitamin E (Vit. E) and selenium (Se) supplementation have protective functions in such stressful conditions.

The present study was planned to evaluate the effect of supplementing non-enzymatic antioxidants as adjunct therapy in enhancing clinical recovery of cattle naturally infected with bovine tropical theileriosis. A total of 18 crossbred dairy cattle with the clinical signs consistent of bovine tropical theileriosis and confirmation by detection of piroplasm infected erythrocytes in blood smears, were randomly divided into 3 groups (A, B, C) of 6 animals each.

Dietary selenium supplementation in the poultry has been regularly practiced using the inorganic and organic forms to enhance the growth and antioxidant defence system. These forms have the limitations of having narrow margin of safety and non specific binding to tissue proteins, hence an alternate form of selenium i.e. nano selenium having greater potential as poultry and livestock feed supplement with higher bioavailability, higher margin of safety and seven fold lower acute toxicity was prepared using starch, ascorbic acid and bovine serum albumin.

The experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of antioxidant [vitamin E (vit E)] and trace minerals [selenium (Se), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn)], high energy diet supplementation and its effect on allometric and physio-biochemical parameters in crossbred cows during transition period. For this, advanced pregnant crossbred cows (n = 20) of 2nd to 4th parity and lactation potential of >10 L/day at 28 days prepartum were divided into two groups viz. control (CON) and treatment (TRT) consisting of 10 animals each.

A total 18 dogs maintained at different places were screened and included in the study. All the dogs were put through preliminary screening for the presence of ascites and were subjected to thorough clinical examination including detailed physical and clinical investigation with special reference to haemato-biochemical estimation, ultrasonography and radiography. The dogs found positive were subjected to therapeutic study and were further divided into three groups, namely G II, G IIIand G IVcomprising of 6 animals in each group irrespective of their sex, breed and age. The study was designed to evaluate the effect of combination of vitamin E with selenium (Se) and vitamin C injections on serum glucose concentration in Magra rams. Twenty one Magra rams were randomly divided in three groups. The 1st group (n=7, C) was administered injection of normal saline 1ml SC once in a week as a placebo and was considered as a control. The rams of group 2nd (n=7, VES) were given injections of selenium and vitamin E (1.5 mg sodium selenite and tocopherol 50mg/ml) 1ml SC per animal once in a week.

Accelerated oxidative damage is one of the hallmarks in both sickle cell disease (SCD) and thalassemia major (TM). A decreased antioxidant level is found in both diseases. Our study was carried out to evaluate the variation in serum levels of Selenium and Vitamin E among a group of transfusion dependant Egyptian SCD and TM patients, further more to correlate these levels with iron overload status or transfusion requirements.

Why are the fixed effects estimates higher for those who do not attend top-25 schools? While having wage observations both before and after schooling presents many advantages, it also in- troduces problems associated with the program evaluation literature. 10 In particular, Ashenfelter (1978) documented the dip in earnings which took place before individuals enrolled in job training programs, something which may also occur when individuals go back to school. 11 Such a dip would cause us to over-estimate the return to an MBA in a fixed effects framework.

The Physicians’ Health Study II, which included more than 14,000 male physicians aged 50 or older, found that neither vitamin E nor vitamin C supplements reduced the risk of major cardiovascular events (heart attack, stroke, or death from cardiovascular disease), cancer, or cataracts. In fact, vitamin E supplements were associated with an increased risk of hemorrhagic stroke in this study.

Antioxidants are man-made or natural substances that may prevent or delay some types of cell damage. Diets high in vegetables and fruits, which are good sources of antioxidants, have been found to be healthy; however, research has not shown antioxidant supplements to be beneficial in preventing diseases. Examples of antioxidants include vitamins C and E, selenium, and carotenoids, such as beta-carotene, lycopene, lutein, and zeaxanthin.

This connection can be shown empirically, e.g. for commodities. Gorton and Rouwenhorst show that the yields on commodities futures have a negative correlation with the yields on long-dated bonds and – for long holding periods – with equities. Commodities futures could therefore be employed effectively in order to diversify equity and bond portfolios. 4 On the other hand, according to Yee’s analysis, high correlation coefficients are evident in a comparison of the yields on financial assets with those of metal or energy producers or with REITs.
