  • In this paper, various frames with their spans of 20, 26, 32 and 38 m and locations built in Hanoi and Son La regions were designed to resist dead, roof live, crane and wind loads. The equivalent horizontal and vertical static earthquake loads applied on the frames were determined.

  • This paper presents a methodology to utilize performance-based seismic design procedure for evaluating the effect of heating in lead core of isolated structures with lead-rubber bearing based on collapse assessment and seismic loss estimation. Nonlinear archetypes of conventional 4-story steel special moment resisting frame, isolated intermediate moment resisting frame with and without heating in lead core effect are compared with each other under far-field (FF) and near-field earthquakes.

  • In this research, the performance abilities associated with tube type lateral load resistant framed systems are studied in order to assess the seismic response parameters ofsteel tall buildings under both far and near-field records. For this purpose, four 30 story structural models with separated framed tube-based skeletons were selected and designed.

  • Ongoing research in the development of design philosophies for earthquake resistant structures over the past few decades was initially based on the strength and elastic analysis. Later, design philosophies recognized the deformation to be an important parameter to be considered in design following nonlinear analysis. The maximum design lateral force, for a particular earthquake, acting on structures having multiple natural time periods can be obtained from inelastic response spectrum.

  • In current work, an effective method is introduced for the optimal cross-section distribution in steel moment resisting frames under severe earthquakes by means of uniform deformation theory and adaptive method. The main goal is to distribute the construction material (weight) along the height of the structure in such a way that the lowest damage due to earthquakes is obtained. In adaptive method, materials gradually transfer from strong parts to weak parts by an iteration procedure during nonlinear time history analysis.

  • Underground Structures and Pipes can be analysed as slender structures completely embedded in the soil. For the dynamical analysis soil and structure can be investigated by decoupled structural models. The horizontal layer system of the soil is modeled as a shear beam while for the structure a flexural beam is used Both models will be finally coupled by elastic foundation.

  • The mitigation of earthquake-related hazards represents a key role in the modern society. The mitigation of such kind of hazards spans from detailed studies on seismicity, evaluation of site effects, and seismo-induced landslides, tsunamis as well as and the design and analysis of structures to resist such actions. The study of earthquakes ties together science, technology and expertise in infrastructure and engineering in an effort to minimize human and material losses when they inevitably occur.

  • So far the scientific community agrees that the earthquake prediction is impossible. In fact, scientists can not predict the exact location, intensity and duration of an earthquake to strike a particular area. Scientists still do not know much about the details of the physical processes associated with earthquakes and their still unpredictable.
