The archeology and history of the ancient Mediterranean have shown that this sea has been a permeable obstacle to human migration. Multiple cultural exchanges around the Mediterranean have taken place with presumably population admixtures.

A new species of the monotypic genus Pseudoameiropsis was found in samples collected from the eastern Mediterranean coast of Turkey. The new species can be separated from P. argentinus by the armature formula in the endopod of the second to fourth swimming legs (0, 1, 021; 0, 1, 121; 0, 1, 121 in P. argentinus, but 1, 1, 221; 1, 1, 221; 1, 1, 221 in the new species), and armature complement in the third exopodal segment of the fourth swimming leg (with eight setae/spines in the new species, but seven elements in P. argentinus).

Monthly samples of seven species of penaeid shrimps, namely, Penaeus aztecus (Ives, 1891), Penaus hathor (Burkenroad, 1959) Penaus japonicus (Spence Bate,1888), Penaus kerathurus (Forskȧl,1775), Penaus semisulcatus (De Haan,1844), Metapenaeus monoceros (Fabricus, 1798) and Metapenaeopsis aegyptia (Galil & Golani, 1990) were collected from Antalya Bay in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea from March, 2019 through March, 2020. Except for P. aztecus and P. semisulcatus, no other shrimp species were infected with the parasitic isopod Epipenaeon ingens ingens. Of the 3043 P.

The presence of a dinoflagellate species, Citharistes regius Stein belonging to genus Citharistes Stein, is reported for the first time from the eastern Mediterranean coast of Turkey. This species is also a first report for all Turkish seas and the Levantine Basin. Morphological characteristics of this species are described in detail and information about its ecological distribution is given.

The time interval of the sedimentation in the southern Hellenic Thrace Basin (Lemnos Island, northeast Aegean Sea) was studied, based on the qualitative analysis of calcareous nannoplankton and quantitative analysis of planktonic foraminifera. The present study offers the first taxonomic analysis of planktonic foraminifera of this age in the Hellenic southern Thrace Basin (Lemnos Island).

İzmir Bay has been one of most polluted bays of the Mediterranean for a long time. When the “Big Channel Project” was completed in 2000, sewage flow into the bay ended. Hence, the influence of creeks, which are the only source of water transportation to the inner bay, was investigated in the current study. Monthly samples of creek water and seawater were taken.

Coastal Ecosystems. Africa has three coastlines—along the Mediterranean Sea in the north, the Atlantic Ocean in the west, and the Indian Ocean in the east. These shores consist of stretches of sand, soil, or rock. In general, plants and animals on Africa’s western coast are less varied and numerous than on the eastern coast. The coastal environments of Africa include coral reef, lagoon, mangrove, salt marsh, and seagrass ecosystems.

Flow cytometry in our studies contributes to better understanding of prokaryotic roles in the Adriatic Sea as a separate ecosystem and as an important part of the Mediterranean Sea. Studies of prokaryotic community by flow cytometry in the eastern part of Adriatic Sea started in year 2003. The first studies were carried out for purposes of comparing two direct counting methods for bacterioplankton (Šantić et al., 2007). The accuracy of epifluorescence microscopy (EM) was assessed against direct counts made by flow cytometry (FCM).

The olive is one of the most ancient cultivated fruit trees. Olive cultivation has a very long history which started from the Third Millennium BC (Loukas & Krimbas, 1983) in the Eastern region of the Mediterranean sea and spread later around the basin following land and maritime routes to Italy, Spain, North Africa and France. Nowadays there are about 805 million of olive trees, 98% of which are grown in the Mediterranean countries (Tsitsipis et al., 2009). The foremost consuming countries are also the main olive oil producers.
