Economic return of onion

The present study is undertaken with following objectives to cater the need of farmer in order to improve marketable yield, water use efficiency and economic return of onion to investigate the effect of irrigation scheduling on economic return of onion.

An experiment has been conducted to study the effects of application of different level of organic fertiliser and inorganic fertiliser on economic of onion production as well as the fertiliser uptake by plant. From the data it was found that the 25% RDF + 75% N of poultry manure was most effective treatment in respect to economics of onion cultivation for higher net return with greater benefit cost (B: C) ratio as well as uptake of NPK.

To popularize rabi castor cultivation with onion intercrop in drip fertigation in Salem and Namakkal district demonstration were conducted under farmers participatory approach. The castor with onion intercropping through drip fertigation was introduced in different blocks in Namakkal and Salem districts in an area of 18 ha with total beneficiaries of 43. On observing the yield and economics, the results revealed that the average castor yield of 4 tonnes/ha and onion intercrop yield of 5 tonnes/ha was recorded in the farmer’s field and the higher gross return of Rs.

The field trials were conducted during rabi season 2012-13 to 2014-15 at Vegetable Research Farm, CCS HAU, Hisar, India to evaluate the response of sulphur sources (gypsum and elemental sulphur) and doses (0, 15, 30 and 45 kg/ha) on yield, quality, storability as well as economic returns of onion (Allium cepa L., cv. ‘Hisar Onion- 4’).

A field experiment was conducted during summer season of 2004 and 2005 to find out the effect of various sources (FYM, VC and PM) and rates of organic manures (100%, 125%, 150% RND) on yield, quality and economics of onion (Pusa Red) on a sandy clay-loam soil low in available N and medium in available phosphorus and potassium. Pooled data analysis revealed that the application of organic manure significantly influenced the yield attributes and bulb yield of onion over 100% RND as urea (control).

An experiment was conducted at Vegetable Research farm, Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, Bhagalpur, Bihar during2018 to explore the possibility of growing Kharif onion inBihar region for higher yield and economic return. A short day variety (Agrifound Dark Red) of Kharif onion was transplanted in three dates (21st July, 6th August and 22nd August) with seven PGRs concentrations (control (water spray), Ethephon 2000ppm,2500 and 3000ppm) and Cycocel (1500ppm2000and 2500ppm) in split- plot design with three replications.

The major challenge for our Governments is to offer solution that enables rain fed farming towards sustainable agriculture. “Krishi Bhagya” is the Government„s flagship programme is a step towards to achive sustainability among rainfed farmers of the state. Government is supporting farmers to make a farm pond with polythene lining (to prevent percolation), install pump and sprinkler irrigation system (for efficient water utilization).

The Onion is the major vegetable crop of Rajasthan. The study was conducted in Sikar district of Rajasthan, where onion is an important crop. A sample of 75 onion growers, based on land holding size were selected viz., small, semi-medium, medium and large size. the average area, production and productivity of Sikar district in the last 30 years (1981 to 2010) were observed 2618.9 hectares, 25075.9 tons and 95.7 q /ha, respectively. In Sikar district area, production and productivity of onion in the overall period (1981-2010) have increased by 6.71, 8.11 and 1.32 per cent per annum.

An experiment was conducted at the Organic Production Block, College of Horticulture, VCSG Uttarakhand University of Horticulture and Forestry, Bharsar, Uttarakhand during the year 2016. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replicated and 9 treatments viz., T1 Control, T2 Vermicompost, T3 FYM, T4 Goat manure, T5 Neem cake, T6 Vermicompost + FYM + Goat manure, T7 Vermicompost + FYM + Neem cake, T8 Vermicompost + Goat manure + Neem cake, T9 FYM + Goat manure + Neem cake. The observations were recorded on different growth and yield attributes.
