In this study, Edwardsiella strains were differentially classified into four species by a phylogenomics construction based on the pan-genome analysis. Edwardsiella species were correctly classified by pan-genome analysis (core gene, dispensable gene, singleton gene) of 15 complete genomes.

In this study, we isolated 28 strains of Bacillus spp. from water samples, catfish pond mud samples and earthworm manure (Perionyx excavates). By the cross-streak agar methods, 22 Bacillus strains showed the inhibition ability to Edwardsiella ictaluri, which caused Bacillary Necrosis Pangasius (BNP) in catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus). Both Bacillus sp. Q16 and Q111 strains showed the highest inhibition to E. ictaluri by the double-layer agar methods.

Bacillary necrosis occurs very often in intensive farming of Tra catfish (Pangasius hypophthalmus) in the Mekong delta. Causative bacterium was identified as Edwardsiella ictaluri. Diseased fish with typical focal necrosis in the liver, kidney and spleen were sampled from 17 fish farms in Can Tho, Dong Thap, Vinh Long, An Giang and Ben Tre Province for bacterial isolation and identification. Among 97 isolates, 47 (48 %) were identified as E. ictaluri.
