Less than 1% of all breast cancer cases are found in men, who reportedly have inferior outcomes compared with matched women patients. Ethnic differences may also affect their prognosis. Here, we investigated overall survival (OS) and major prognostic factors for male breast cancer (MBC) in a cohort of Egyptian patients.

This study is a survey to reveal the sero-positivity rate of H. pylori in ITP, versus healthy Egyptians. We also aimed at correlating H. pylori antibody titre with the severity of ITP. This study included 293 Egyptians; 135 ITP patients and a control group of 158 individuals. CBC was done to determine platelet counts.

The development of point-of-care tests that are accurate, simple, rapid, low cost, and that do not require high levels of training for their interpretation is integral to improving the syndromic management algorithms for vaginal discharge that at present perform poorly. The present study aimed at evaluating the usefulness of assessing the bacterial sialidase activity as a rapid, sensitive and specific alternative compared to routine diagnostic methods for diagnosis of bacterial vaginosis (BV). The study included 50 female patients presenting with excessive and/or abnormal vaginal discharge.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infects many people worldwide and it is a leading cause of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Natural Killer (NK) cells have an important role during HCV infection as a part of innate immune responses. Three subtypes of NK cells are recognized: CD56dim CD16+ve, CD56bright CD16+ve and CD56–veCD16+ve. Natural killers T (NKT) (CD3CD16CD56+ve) cells are subsets of T lymphocytes that help in innate immune response because they can be directly cytotoxic.

Human bocavirus (HBoV) was first identified as parvovirus in 2005 in nasopharyngeal aspirates of children with lower respiratory tract infection. The objectives of this study were to determine HBoV as a cause of acute lower respiratory tract infection(ALRTI) in children by investigating the presence of HBoV DNA, to evaluate diagnostic efficiency of HBov IgM assay in the serum of the studied patients and to assess the impact of the viral load on the clinical manifestations of children with positive HBoV DNA samples.

Breast cancer (BC) incidence is progressively increasing in Egypt. However, there is insufficient knowledge of the acquired somatic mutations in Egyptian BC patients which limit our understanding of its progression. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first Egyptian cohort to sequence a multiple-gene panel of cancer related genes on BC patients. Four hundred and nine cancer related genes were sequenced in 46 fresh breast tumors of Egyptian BC patients to identify somatic mutations and their frequencies.TP53 and PIK3CA were the most top two frequently mutated genes.

Circulatory microRNAs have recently emerged as non-invasive and effective biomarkers for diagnosis of various diseases. Currently there is no reliable biomarker for diagnosis, prognosis or even staging of fibrotic and cirrhotic complications arising from HCV infection. This study aimed at investigating plasma miR484, miR-524, miR-615-5p and miR-628-3p expression signatures in Egyptian patients with HCV mediated cirrhosis, fibrosis and HCC.

Pulmonary fungal infections are common potentially life-threatening conditions in immuno-compromised patients. Diagnosis represents a challenge due to the non-specific clinical manifestations. Empirical use of anti-fungal drug therapy has been a burden for years due to high cost and drug toxicity. This study was designed to determine the presence of Candida chest infection in immuno-compromised patients in Tanta University Hospitals. A total of 150 patients with chest infection were selected during the period from June 2015 till June 2017.

Autism is a biological disorder with clearly defined phenomenology. Studies from the Middle East on this topic have been particularly rare. Little is known about the influence of culture on clinical features, presentations and management of autism. The current study was done to compare characteristics of autism in two groups of Egyptian as well as Saudi children.

The activation of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) may be an important event in the immune evasion of tumor cells. TLR4 polymorphisms in breast cancer patients have recently attracted great interest. However, there has been little research on the association between the TLR4 +3725G/C polymorphism and the risk of breast cancer. This study aimed to investigate the frequency of TLR4 +3725G/C gene polymorphism in Egyptian breast cancer patients in order to evaluate its prognostic role in this malignancy.

Primary enteric-type adenocarcinoma of the urinary bladder is relatively uncommon. We present our experience with 109 pure, non-urachal cases—the largest series to date. This work was undertaken with the aim of describing the immunohistochemical features of adenocarcinoma of the urinary bladder associated with schistosomiasis, illustrating their histologic and immunohistochemical similarities to colorectal carcinomas.

Both Helicobacter pylori (HP) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections are endemic in Egypt. This work aimed to investigate the presence of HP in the liver of patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC) and explore the relation between HP infection, liver histopathology and HCV viral load. The study included 60 patients with CHC. Virological, biochemical, liver biopsy and testing for anti-Hp and anti-schistosomal antibodies in serum were done. Liver tissues were examined for histopathological and presence of Hp by detection of HP 16S rRNA gene by PCR and sequence analysis.

Liver cancer grows silently with mild or no symptoms until advanced. In the absence of an effective treatment for advanced stage of hepatic cancer hope lies in early detection, and screening for high-risk population. Among Egyptians viral hepatitis is the most common risk factor for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The current work was designed to determine the level of prothrombin induced by vitamin K absence-II (PIVKA-II) in sera of patients suffering from HCC and hepatitis C virus (HCV) patients being the most common predisposing factor for HCC.

The purpose of this study was to investigate canal configuration of mandibular first premolars in an Egyptian population. Two hundred fifty human extracted mandibular first premolars were collected from Egyptian patients and a small hole in the center of the occlusal surface of each tooth was made perforating the roof of the pulp chamber. Teeth were decalcified by immersing in nitric acid and dehydrated in ascending concentrations of ethyl alcohol.

The aim of this study was to compare the effects of pulsed electromagnetic field versus pulsed ultrasound in treating patients with postnatal carpal tunnel syndrome. The study was a randomized, double-blinded trial. Forty postnatal female patients with idiopathic carpal tunnel syndrome were divided randomly into two equal groups. One group received pulsed electromagnetic field, with nerve and tendon gliding exercises for the wrist, three times per week for four weeks. The other group received pulsed ultrasound and the same wrist exercises.

Egypt, the single country with highest incidence of HCV infection in the world, has embarked on a government-sponsored mass treatment program using several combinations of DAAs. Recognizing the importance of extrahepatic manifestations, independently of the hepatic, a subcommittee was assigned to develop national guidelines for respective prioritizing indications and protocols. It evaluated the benefit of treating patients with different extrahepatic manifestations, and reviewed relevant clinical trials and guidelines concerning DAA combinations available in Egypt.
