Sugarcane bagasse ash (SCBA) is an industrial waste that consists of silicon oxides, calcium, aluminum, iron, magnesium, and alkali metal oxides. The composition and structure of thermomechanical treated SCBA was analyzed by X-ray fluorescence (XRF), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and X-Ray diffraction (XRD). Thermomechanical treated SCBA was mixed with clay, quartz and feldspar at different compositions according to an appropriate mixing ratio and using this mixture for the production of dry pressed ceramic tiles.

Ebook "Fluorescence spectroscopy in biology: Advanced methods and their applications to membranes, proteins, dna, and cells" focuses on two new approaches in cell fluorescence microscopy. R. Brock shows how to characterize diffusion in cells by fluorescence correlation spectroscopy. The last two contributions by S. Rosenthal and O. Minet are devoted to photophysics and the use of quantum dots in cell imaging.

Ebook "Analytical ultracentrifugation of polymers and nanoparticles" is divided into chapters concerning instrumentation, sedimentation velocity runs, density gradient runs, application examples and future developments. In particular, the detailed application chapter demonstrates the versatility and power of AUC by means of many interesting and important industrial examples. Thus the book concentrates on practical aspects rather than details of centrifugation theory.

Highly crosslinked, inorganic-organic hybrid and intrinsically fluorescent polyphosphazene nanospheres bearing hydroxyl groups on the surface are facilely generated via a one-pot polycondensation of octachlorocyclotetraphosphazene, fluorescein and quercetin. The resulting nanospheres were characterised by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), dynamic light scattering (DLS), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) and ultravioletvisible spectroscopy (UV-vis) techniques.

This study investigates whether, and how, 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) is concerned in flower bud abscission of pistachio (Pistacia vera L.). Abscission was studied about the activation of the abscission zone, located between shoot and flower bud, from Uzun pistachio cultivar where the abscission profiles and the scanning electron micrographs pictorial differences in the abscission program, under natural conditions of flower bud.

In this study, toxic effects caused by the degradation of fluoxastrobin, which is a commonly used fungicide where newly synthesized manganese or sulfur-doped TiO2 nanoparticles exist were evaluated. The characterization study of nanoparticles was performed by scanning an electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffractometry, Brunau–Emmet–Teller analysis, X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, and UV–Vis (ultraviolet–visible) reflectance spectra.

In this study, the adsorption of methane (CH4) capacities onto natural mordenite obtained from ˙Izmir, Turkey, and its cationic forms (CuM, AgM, FeM, and HM samples) were investigated at the temperatures of 0 and 25 ◦ C up to 100 kPa. Natural and modified samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), thermogravimetry (TG-DTG), differential thermal analysis (DTA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with energy dispersion spectroscopy (EDS), and N2 adsorption methods.

In this study, the electrospinning method was used to prepare polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/chitosan (CS) blend nanofibers from their solutions. The effect of blend ratios (PVA/CS: 1%, 3%, 5%, and 7% (w/w)), applied voltage, and flow rate on the morphological, optical, and thermal properties of electrospun nanofibers were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), fluorescence and UV-Vis spectroscopies, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), respectively.

In this study, new polythiophenes containing hydrazone groups from derivatives of acetophenone were synthesized by chemical oxidative coupling polymerization. Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis) combined with infrared (IR) analyses proved the supposed structure of novel polythiophenes and proved conformance of the expected synthetic method. Morphology and surface properties of the synthesized polymers were investigated by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM).

The development and evaluation of new therapeutic approaches for malignant mesothelioma has been sparse due, in part, to lack of suitable tumor models. Methods: We established primary mesothelioma cultures from pleural and ascitic fluids of five patients with advanced mesothelioma. Electron microscopy and immunohistochemistry (IHC) confirmed their mesothelial origin.

Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is a microscopic technique in which a beam of electrons is transmitted through an ultra-thin specimen, interacting with the specimen as it passes through. An image is formed by the interaction of the electrons transmitted through the specimen; the image is magnified and focused onto an imaging device, such as a fluorescent screen or on a layer of photographic film, or to be detected by a sensor such as a CCD camera.

Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is a technique where the electron-beam is transmitted through an ultra-thin specimen, interacting with specimen as it passes through it. An image is formed from the interaction of the electrons transmitted through the specimen, which is then magnified and focused onto an imaging device, such as a fluorescent screen, a photographic film, or a charge-coupled device (CCD) sensor. This technique is capable of imaging at significantly high resolution than the light microscopes, owing to the small de-Broglie wavelength of electrons....
