Ebook "Quantum modeling of complex molecular systems" includes methodological advances and original applications to actual chemical or biochemical phenomena which were not possible before the increased sophistication of modern computers. The chapters contain detailed reviews of the developments of various computational techniques, used to study complex molecular systems such as molecular liquids and solutions (particularly aqueous solutions), liquid-gas, solid-gas interphase and biomacromolecular systems.

Ebook "Gravity, special relativity, and the strong force: A Bohr-Einstein-de broglie model for the formation of hadrons" shows that the strong interaction forces, which keep hadrons and nuclei together, are relativistic gravitational forces exerted between very small particles in the mass range of neutrinos. First, this book considers the motion of two or three charged particles under the influence of electrostatic and gravitational forces only, which shows that bound states are formed by following the same semi-classical methodology used by Bohr to describe the H atom.

We study the escape process of nascent proteins at the ribosomal exit tunnel of bacterial Escherichia coli by using molecular dynamics simulations with coarse-grained and atomistic models. It is shown that the effects of hydrophobic and electrostatic interactions on the protein escape at the E. coli’s tunnel are qualitatively similar to those obtained previously at the exit tunnel of archaeal Haloarcula marismortui, despite significant differences in the structures and interactions of the ribosome tunnels from the two organisms.

Here it was investigated how oligonucleotide retention and selectivity factors are affected by electrostatic and non-electrostatic interactions in ion pair chromatography. A framework was derived describing how selectivity depends on the electrostatic potential generated by the ion-pair reagent concentration, co-solvent volume fraction, charge difference between the analytes, and temperature.

Comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA) and comparative molecular similarity indices analysis (CoMSIA) of three-dimensional quantitative structure–activity relationship (3D-QSAR) models were conducted using 36 aromatic compound congeners as the training set and eight aromatic compound congeners as the test set. Logarithms of experimental bioconcentration data (logBCF) were used as dependent variables and the physicochemical properties of the aromatic compound congeners were used as independent variables.

In the presented study, the sulfur dioxide sorption properties of fly ash zeolite X were investigated. Sorption tests were performed on fly ash zeolite samples that were not prepared specially for sorption, in addition to dried samples and samples in the presence of water vapor. The samples saturated with water vapor showed the highest sorption capacity. The sorption capacity of the samples additionally dried prior to the sorption experiment was higher than that of the samples that were not specially prepared for the sorption test.

This work reports a novel design of a micro gripper, in which V-shaped electrothermal actuators are used to create gripping force and a compliant mechanism is integrated to amplify displacements of the actuators. The gripper is designed to handle micro samples of various sizes from 5 m to 50 m by applying appropriate driving voltages. Those voltages are ranged from 5 V to 25 V, which are relatively low in comparison with driving voltages of the electrostatic micro grippers. The compliant mechanism with amplifying ratio 5.

Microswitches have been used for many different applications in building, automation, and security due to requiring little force. A novel design of a triple-stepped beam structure for a mechanical bistable microswitch is presented, and it was found that the bistability of the beam can be achieved by applying an electrostatic force which allows a high deflection with small electrode separation. A finite element method analysis has been used to design the bistable microswitch in a certain range of geometries based on the standard of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).

This paper proposes a new modeling of a single-degree-of-freedom electrostatic suspension system working with large aspect ratio in which the fringing field is uncertain. Based on the model, an adaptive sliding mode control for position of the object is constructed. Robustness and global stability of the controller are proven by computer simulations of contactless suspension.

In this paper, we consider the stochastic evolution of two particles with electrostatic repulsion and restoring force which is modeled by a system of stochastic differential equations driven by fractional Brownian motion where the diffusion coefficients are constant. This is the simplest case for some classes of non- colliding particle systems such as Dyson Brownian motions, Brownian particles systems with nearest neighbour repulsion. We will prove that the equation has a unique non- colliding solution in path- wise sense.

Common carp (Cyprinus carpio) is highly important culturable species in freshwater and cultured throughout the globe. Its farming require formulated feed with balance protein and energy. Most of the time fish meal is used as a protein source, but it is not acceptable from sustainability point of view. The replacement of fish meal by plant based protein source is advised. The limitation of plant based ingredients like soybean meal is the presence of anti-digestive factors in the form of several protease inhibitors.

K-Ras is a small G-protein, localized mainly at the inner leaflet of the plasma membrane. The membrane targeting signal of this protein consists of a polybasic C-terminal sequence of six contiguous lysines and a farnesyl-ated cysteine. Results from biophysical studies in model systems suggest that hydrophobic and electrostatic interactions are responsible for the membrane binding properties of K-Ras.

Double-layer carbon supercapacitors (electrochemical double-layer capacitor (EDLCs)) based on two carbon electrodes of high surface area separated by an electrolyte are the most popular electrochemical supercapacitors. The charge process is electrostatic with charge separation at the two electrode–electrolyte interfaces. The EDLCs can thus be modeled with two capacitances in series with what is called equivalent series resistance (ESR).
