This paper proposes an novel simple anti-bias modulation technique for single phase Dual-Active-Bridge DC/DC converters. When a pulsating load occurs, the control efforts of the controller lead to sudden changes in the phase shift. In turn, this cause a momentary unbalance in the positive and negative volt-second product of the transformer.

Increasing awareness of the role of vitamin A (VA) in human health has led to international efforts to eliminate VA deficiency (VAD) as a public health problem. This paper examined community awareness of existence, signs and symptoms, causes, control of VAD as well as attitudes, so as to identify knowledge gaps among health workers and caretakers/mothers.

The majority of participants displaying incongruent decisions of achievement attribution via LS and CJ showed equivalent LS scores between effort and ability attributions. A goodness-of-fit test was conducted (on a model motivated by the beta-binomial distribution) and successfully eliminated the possibility that the tied LS scores in effort and ability attributions actually represent participants’ true psychological state.

Drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) is the barrier for global TB elimination efforts with a lower treatment success rate. Loss to follow-up (LTFU) in DR-TB is a serious problem, causes mortality and morbidity for patients, and leads to wide spreading of DR-TB to their family and the wider community, as well as wasting health resources.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) calls for the elimination of cervical cancer (CC) as a public health issue. To achieve elimination, efforts must be aligned and accelerated. Women living with HIV (WLWH) have excess risk for developing, and dying from, CC over the general population.

The purpose of this paper is to employ the Meta-Frontier Cost Function to compare the bank efficiencies in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand during the period of 2002–2009. We propose two new variables: income on loans and non-performing loans, to identify whether the banks are both cost and profit efficient and to control the quality of loans in contrast with early studies using loans and securities as the output variables. Evidence is found that the Indonesian banks are the most efficient. The empirical results illuminate the governments’ policies and bank management.

Search engines are the major breakthrough on the web for retrieving the information. But List of retrieved documents contains a high percentage of duplicated and near document result. So there is the need to improve the performance of search results. Some of current search engine use data filtering algorithm which can eliminate duplicate and near duplicate documents to save the users’ time and effort.

At present, adapting an Information Extraction system to new topics is an expensive and slow process, requiring some knowledge engineering for each new topic. We propose a new paradigm of Information Extraction which operates 'on demand' in response to a user's query. On-demand Information Extraction (ODIE) aims to completely eliminate the customization effort. Given a user’s query, the system will automatically create patterns to extract salient relations in the text of the topic, and build tables from the extracted information using paraphrase discovery technology. ...

"Our Higher Ed Readiness segment realized year-over-year revenue growth for the first time in three quarters as we've begun to focus more on our core business and execute our go-to-market strategy as a differentiated player at a premium price point," said John Connolly, interim president and CEO of The Princeton Review. "These efforts also contributed to ending the quarter with positive cash flow.

As a result of enforcement actions and settlements for noncompliance with federal pollution control requirements, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reported that, for FY2011, regulated entities committed to invest an estimated $19.0 billion for judicially mandated pollution controls and cleanup, and for implementing mutually agreed upon (supplemental) environmentally beneficial projects. EPA estimates that these efforts achieved commitments to reduce, treat, or eliminate 1.8 billion pounds of pollutants in the environment, primarily from air and water.

The Boeing case studies provide an interesting window into the dramatic shift in manufacturing paradigms taking place in response to the highly competitive market of the 21st century. Like many companies today, Boeing has placed Lean Manufacturing in the forefront of its efforts to eliminate continually all non-value added aspects of the enterprise and ensure optimal competitiveness.

In one sense, pharmacology can be considered a “good news, bad news” scenario. The good news is that exciting and innovative changes in drug therapy continue to occur at lightning speed. The bad news is that it is often difficult for health care practitioners to stay abreast of this rapidly changing field. Oftentimes, drug therapies that were considered state-of-the-art only a few years ago are now outdated and replaced by more contemporary treatments.

The Mali Economic Management Credit supports the government’s efforts to improve women’s access to land and financial services. It has facilitated the preparation of an action plan that was included in the overall financial sector action plan approved in 1998, which resulted in budget support for women’s income-generation activities. The operation has also facilitated and increased women’s access to land in the Office du Niger region; and raised public awareness of women’s legal rights and the benefits of women’s participation in the develop- ment process.

The public service is being transformed as reform is occurring at all levels of government both here and abroad. Although some of the changes address narrow, specific issues, increasingly more radical innovations are commonplace. A key example is the effort to modify or eliminate the distinguishing characteristic of the merit system: safeguarding the independence of the public servant corps from political influence.

A resolution agreed at ILO’s 2006 conference clarified the purpose of the asbestos convention. It said “the elimination of the future use of asbestos and the identification and proper management of asbestos currently in place are the most effective means to protect workers from asbestos exposure and to prevent future asbestos-related deaths.” The 2006 resolution added that the convention “should not be used to provide a justification for, or endorsement of, the continued use of asbestos.

The treaty, called the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, is a major achievement. It starts by immediately targeting 12 particularly toxic POPs for reduc- tion and eventual elimination. More importantly, it sets up a system for tackling additional chemicals identified as unacceptably hazardous. It recognizes that a special effort may sometimes be needed to phase out certain chemicals for certain uses and seeks to ensure that this effort is made. It also channels resources into cleaning up the existing stockpiles and dumps of POPs that litter the world’s landscape.

In the last quarter-century childhood lead poisoning declined dramatically as common sources of lead exposure such as leaded gasoline were eliminated or reduced. From 1976 through 1994, the prevalence of elevated blood lead levels [10 micrograms lead per deciliter whole blood (µg/dL) or more] among children aged 1 to 5 years dropped from 88.2% to 4.4% (10, 29, 79).

Research strongly suggests that controlling such environmental asthma triggers as allergens and air pollutants would substantially reduce childhood asthma. For example, Lanphear and colleagues recently estimated that elimination of residential risk factors for asthma would reduce 39% of asthma diagnoses in the United States, at a cost savings of $402 million (57).

The goals of cancer prevention are to reduce the incidence, morbidity and mortality due to cancer through the identification and elimination of precancerous lesions (termed intraepithelial neoplasias or IENs) and/or the early detection of minimally invasive cancers. Between 2002 and 2004, the United States (US) saw a 2.1% annual reduction in the total number of cancer deaths (Epsey et al. 2007).. This reduction was primarily due to advances in cancer detection and prevention efforts.
