The results showed that GdFeO3 photocatalyst had a good performance under visible light irradiation. The remarkable enhancement photo-Fenton catalytic activity of GdFeO3 material could be attributed to its small particle size and narrow band gap energy.

The derived temperature dependences of the peak intensities, separations and half-widths of the separate spectral peaks in the A-band phonon progressions indicate the different trends for vibration-free zero-phonon electronic transition and vibration-related lower-energy electronic transitions to high vibrational levels of the ground electronic state – lower thermal damping and more softened phonon for the zero-phonon transition, also implying the extended defect origin of the A-band photoluminescence.

The F2B slab model weakens the oscillations and calculations on F2B model quickly converge. However, the F2B model leads to artificial narrowness of band gap. Besides, when the number of layers increases, surface energy obtained from all three slab models approaches similar values. In particular, values of surface energy from DFT calculations converge to the experimental range for all three slab models.

In this paper, we present one method to determine the band gap energy of ZnO and ZnO:Tb3 materials. ZnO:Tb3 material has prepared by forced hydrolysis method. All samples have zinc oxide hexagonal wurzite structure. The obtained results show that the energy of the band gap depends on Tb3 molar ratio.

Borotellurite glasses were prepared by melt quenching technique. Amorphous nature of samples was confirmed through X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns. Effect of B2O3 content on the structure of glass network was studied through Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) spectra. Optical band gap and Urbach energy were found from analysis of optical absorption spectra. Thermal studies were carried out by using Differential thermal analyzer (DTA) measurements.

Chemical doping nitrogen in to TiO2 crystal network by methods of sol-gel and impregnation was presented. The obtained nitrogen-doped TiO2 materials were characterized by different techniques such as XRD, SEM, UV-VIS. It was shown that samples have very uniform nano size, anatas structure and low level of band-gap energy (Ebg ~ 2.2 eV, ~ 500 - 600 nm). Their activity and kinetic were also studied and the results proved that in comparison with P25, the obtained nitrogen-doped TiO2 had higher activity and photo-quantum efficiency in organic disintegrated reaction under solar radiation.

The moderately thermophilic bacteriumAcidithiobacillus caldus is found in bacterial populations in many bioleaching operations throughout the world. This bac-terium oxidizes elemental sulfur and other reduced inor-ganic sulfur compounds as the sole source of energy. The purpose of this study was to purify and characterize the tetrathionate hydrolase of A. caldus. The enzyme was purified 16.7-fold by one step chromatography using a SP Sepharose column. The purified enzyme resolved into a single band in 10% polyacrylamide gel, both under denaturing and native conditions.
