Ebook "Herrera’s ‘Plasmogenia’ and other collected works: Early writings on the experimental study of the origin of life" collects three outstanding examples of the work of Mexican biologist Alfonso Luis Herrera (1868-1943), a pioneer in experimental origins of life research. Two of the collected works appear here in English for the first time. Herrera's works represent the attempt to deal experimentally with the issue of an autotrophic origin of life, a possibility that was widely accepted prior to Alexander I.

The structure of the new breakwater named perforated semi-circular floating breakwater (SCFB) consists of two parts: a main body of a box-shaped base block and a semi-circular upper structure is perforated for the purpose of absorbing breaking and overtopping wave energy.

In this study, 400 day-old straight-run Cobb 500 broiler chicks sourced from a commercial hatchery were randomly allotted to treatment following a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD). The purpose of this study is to construct a suitable contact algorithm for BSMPM and then use it to investigate the contact force caused by impact. Some numerical examples are presented in this paper, the impact of two circular elastic disks and the impact of a soft circular disk into a stiffer rectangular block. All the results of contact force obtained from this study are compared with finite element results and perform a good agreement, the energy conservation is also considered.

Cogen ash, a by-product of sugar mills obtained during co-generation process to produce heat and electrical energy by burning bagasse and/or coal was used to study its effect on growth and yield of paddy. The experiment was conducted in two sites at Bharathinagar, K.M. Doddi, Mandya during kharif 2014 with 13 treatments replicated thrice using randomized complete block design. The cogen ash collected from M/s Sri Chamundeshwari Sugars Ltd. was used in the study was more of silt sized, alkaline in nature with medium EC.

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera L. Dunal) is an important medicinal plant containing active constituent withanolides providing anti-stress ability, energy, and immunity. An experiment in Randomized Block Design (factorial) was laid out at medicinal and aromatic plants farm, AAU, Anand to study the effect of individual five endophytic bacterial isolates on growth and yield of W. somnifera along with FYM and with/without recommended dose of fertilizer (RDF 30:15:0, N:P:K kg/ha).

An extensive survey was carried out to record feeding practices and nutritional status of lactating buffaloes in Charkhi Dadri district of Haryana state. The survey was conducted during rabi season (January, 2019 - February, 2019). Twelve villages, representing all the blocks of the district were selected for this survey. Samples of feeds, fodder, milk, hair and blood were collected from five families from each category of farmers i.e. belonging to landless category and farmers with land holding in a village. Thus a total of 120 lactating buffaloes were selected for the study.

The study was initiated to know the energy and nutrients utilization in wheat-weed ecosystem during the year 2016-17 and 2017-18 in 4 years old eucalyptus plantation in Randomized Block Design with three replications. The investigation was carried out at farmer field Village- Majitha Block-Shahpura District- Jabalpur (M.P.). The result revealed that Launaea nudicaulis, Rumax dentatus, Melilotus indicus, Chenopodium album and Phalaris minor are major weed found in experiment area. Launaea nudicaulis, Rumax dentatus, and Melilotus indicus had highest weed dry weight.
