DSM is a set of tools and practices taken by utilities to influence the amount and/or timing of customers’ energy demand in order to use electricity most efficiently. DSM decreases the cost of meeting customers’ energy needs through increased investment in enduse energy efficiency and load management. Demand-side resources can reduce or postpone investment in generation, transmission, and distribution capacity, and decrease fuel consumption, and improve environmental quality.

This study examines the long term impact of demand-side management variables including HER (Home energy report), MEPS (Minimum Energy Performance Standards) and NEEAP (National Energy Efficiency Action Plan). The future installation capacity of Malaysia’s power generation is evaluated considering the factors of population, per capita electricity consumption, efficiency, capacity margin and DSM. The forecasting horizon of the simulation model is 15 years from 2016 to 2030.

The present paper is a policy review regarding islands non-interconnected with the mainland grid. The focus is on the key policy issues for the promotion of renewable energy as well as the outcomes of these policies in Greece, Portugal, Spain and France. A discussion of the unified price system, the creation of local markets and the special regulation for energy storage and the demand side management systems are some of the policy proposals cocluded from the present review.

With the latest development of smart grid technology, the energy management system can be efficiently implemented at consumer premises. In this paper, an energy management system with wireless communication and smart meter are designed for scheduling the electric home appliances efficiently with an aim of reducing the cost and peak demand. For an efficient scheduling scheme, the appliances are classified into two types: uninterruptible and interruptible appliances.

To meet unbalanced demand, an energy provider has to include costly generation technologies, which in turn results in high residential electricity prices. Our work is devoted to the application of a bilevel optimisation, a challenging class of optimisation problems, in electricity market. We propose an original demand-side management model, adapt a solution approach based on complementary slackness conditions, and provide the computational results on illustrative and real data.
