In the present study a cast iron pulley operated centrifugal pump was selected which has 11 components namely casing, impeller, shaft, pulley, bearing stand, bearing cover, top flange, bottom flange, gland, counter weight and base. It was found that the present existing centrifugal pumps have many technical disadvantage related to its cost, weight, corrosion and wear and tear. During the study it was found that these technical disadvantages can be overcome by replacing the metallic parts of pumps with the engineering plastic materials.

Polymers are the compounds that includes plastics, artificial fibers, rubber, cellulose, and many other materials, including coatings and adhesives. This book presents key data on approximately 200 important polymers currently in industrial use or under study in industrial or academic research. No other single source covers so many polymers or offers such a depth of data. The book standardized and makes accessible a wealth of essential data for students, teachers, researchers, and other professionals in chemistry and chemical engineering.

In the last 30 years, plastics have become the most dominant engineering material for most products. We take a brief look at the most common types of plastics, and how they are processed. All plastics are polymers, these polymers are further divided into two basic types: thermoplastics and thermosets.

Soils are aggregates of mineral particles, and together with air and/or water in the void spaces, they form three-phase systems. A large portion of the earth’s surface is covered by soils, and they are widely used as construction and foundation materials. Soil mechanics is the branch of engineering that deals with the engineering properties of soils and their behavior under stress.

Other materials which may be extracted from MBT processes include glass, textiles, paper / card, and plastics. The most common of these is glass, which may be segregated with other inert materials such as stones and ceramics. These materials are typically segregated and arise as the “dense” fraction from air classifiers or ballistic separation (see Table 2 on mechanical waste preparation technologies). This dense fraction could find application for use as a low grade aggregate; however this would be subject to achieving a suitable quality material.

Common engineering materials reach in many engineering applications such as automotive or aerospace; their limits and new developments are required to fulfill increasing demands on performance and characteristics. The properties of mate- rials can be increased, for example, by combining different materials to achieve better properties than a single constituent or by shaping the material or constituents in a specific structure. Many of these new materials reveal a much more complex behavior than traditional engineering materials due to their advanced structure or composition.
