The current study investigates the influences of using DP on the engineering properties of the modified SCM with the HVFA based supplementary cementitious binder. Particularly, the effect of slag with higher pozzolanic reactivity partially substituting fly ash on the properties of the modified SCM was preliminarily estimated, which has not been previously explored.

This paper presents the experimental results of the viscosity and its influence of cement paste on both the segregation of the concrete mixture and the compressive strength of EPS-C. The research revealed that a viscosity of cement paste below 50 mPa.s results in segregation of the concrete mixture.

In this paper, the continuous stiffness measurement (CSM) indentation is employed to investigate fatigue mechanical properties of structural steel under cyclic loading. For this purpose, several representative analytical approaches were introduced to estimate the basic mechanical properties including Young’s modulus and indentation hardness from the characteristics of the loading/unloading curves.

In this paper, free vibration of bidirectional functionally graded sandwich (BFGSW) beams is studied by using a finite element formulation. The beams made from three distinct materials are composed of three layers, a homogeneous core and two bidirectional FGM face layers with material properties varying in both the thickness and longitudinal directions by power gradation laws.

Drying shrinkage is the main cause of early age cracking of concrete and mortar. A wide range of research has been conducted to reduce the drying shrinkage, including using fibres or chemical admixtures. This paper investigated the effect of shrinkage reducing admixture on the flexural strength, compressive strength, drying shrinkage, water absorption and porosity of mortar.

Acoustic properties of foams, such as macroscopic transports and sound absorption, are significantly influenced by their local morphology. The present paper develops a polynomial chaos expansion (PCE)-based surrogate model for characterizing the microstructure-properties relationships of acoustic monodisperse foams.

This paper briefly overviews experimental procedure and methods of self-healing studies; and the damage of concrete materials due to drying shrinkage. Microstructure observations such as SEM, ESEM are used as popular methods in self-healing researches; however, they are difficult to be carried out in case of 3D-cracks.

The research in the field of cementitious materials has brought towards many non-traditional binder systems. One of these systems, a ternary binder composed of calcium aluminate cement (CAC), ordinary Portland cement (OPC), and calcium sulfate (C$Hx), called ettringite binder, offers a possibility of very rapid development in mechanical strength.

This paper focuses on some microstructure characteristics of the ettringite binder based on a C12A7 rich cement and a hemihydrate at early age. Some important characteristics of this binder were found, such as: short setting time (about 40–50 minutes), rapid expansion just after initial setting time, rapid evolution of porosity and bound water during the first 5 hours of hydration.
