Their management relies primarily on agrochemicals with short persistence; widespread use of these chemicals causes environmental and human health problems. The challenge of sustainable viticulture is to provide ecologically sound alternatives. In this regard, the application of entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) and natural products derived from their symbionts can be an alternative. EPNs are well-known biocontrol agents for soil-dwelling insects.

Wireworms are polyphagous soil-dwelling pests that are hard to control. Attract-and-kill strategies, combining attractive semiochemicals with biocontrol agents, have great promise to control insect pests. We hypothesized that the combination of plant semiochemicals and entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) in an attract-and-kill system could greatly enhance the nematodes’ efficiency against wireworms. We evaluated the potential of alginate beads loaded with plant extracts and EPNs to control Agriotes obscurus.

The Neotropical brown stink bug Euschistus heros and the green-belly stink bug Dichelops melacanthus are the most important pests today for the succession system of soy-corn in Brazil. Dichelops melacanthus attacks the emerging shoot (epicotyl) of corn plants at the seedling stage of their development, remaining and reproducing on the straw over generations. Euschistus heros, on the other hand, feeds directly on the grains and lodge under fallen leaves after the soybean harvest, due to the absence of another crop host.

IJs released from infected larvae would have the potential to infect healthy mosquito larvae. Also, both bacterial supernatant and bacterial cell suspension of Xenorhabdus nematophila caused >91% larval mortality after 48 h, whereas only the bacterial cell suspension of Photorhabdus laumondii was effective against the mosquito larvae. These data provides useful information on the potential use of EPNs and/or formulated bacterial cell suspensions in the control of the important urban and container-breeding mosquito, Ae.

The efficacy of both botanical pesticides and entomopathogenic nematodes (EPN) is largely dose-dependent and driven by environmental conditions. Combination of the EPNs and botanicals may enhance their efficacy; thus, we investigated the compatibility of the medicinal plants Alepidea amatymbica and Elephantorrhiza elephantina with five locally isolated EPN strains, three Steinernema (S. khoisanae, S. biddulphi and S. innovationi) and two Heterorhabditis (H. bacteriophora and Heterorhabditis sp. SGI 244).

Entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) emerge as compatible alternatives to conventional insecticides in controlling Holotrichia parallela larvae (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae). However, the immune responses of H. parallela against EPNs infection remain unclear.

The current study highlights the importance of entomopathogenic nematode (EPN), their bacterial symbionts and their combined efficacy along with Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) in C. medinalis management. In the field experiment conducted at Thenthiruperai, Xenorhabdus bovienii+ Bt and X. japonica combined with Bt found to be more effective with 80.54 per cent and 79.37 per cent reduction in larval population over untreated control respectively.

A total 200 soil samples were collected from tea plantation areas of district, Jorhat, Assam and were assessed for entomopathogenic nematodes using the Galleria baiting technique. Out of 200 soil samples, EPN was found in 1 soil sample collected from Tea plantation, Chetiagaon, Jorhat and designated as EPN-H-1. Morphological and morphometrical characters were used for the identification of nematode isolate. The measurements were expressed in % ratios and Means ± SD ranges.

A soil survey was carried out during 2016-2017 in four predominantly Sugarcane growing districts of Telangana state, viz., Sangareddy, Kamareddy, Nizamabad and Khammam, for the presence of entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) from Sugarcane ecosystem. The soil samples collected from Kamareddy district showed the highest occurrence of EPNs in 33.33% of the soil samples, followed by Sangareddy (23.33%), Khammam (16.67%) and Nizamabad (5.55%) districts.

Entotomopathogenic nematodes (Steinernema sp.) isolated from the soil samples in the Barak Valley of Assam, India. The nematodes were isolated by baiting technique using greater wax moth (Galleria mellonella). Soil samples were collected during rabbi and monsoon season from the different locality of Barak Valley especially from crop fields, rubber plantation, pineapple garden, tea gardens and also from rhizospheric soil of bamboo bushes. Nematodes are isolated from rhizospheric soil of Bamboo and from crop field.

The common cutworm (turnip moth) Agrotis segetum (Denis & Schiffermuller) is nearly cosmopolitan insect pest of potato. The efficacy of the entomopathogenic nematodes (EPN) Steinernema carpocapsae and Heterorhabditis indica was evaluated against different developmental stages of A. segetum under laboratory conditions. In laboratory studies, significant mortality of second instar larvae was recorded by H. indica (73.3-100 per cent) and 63.3-100 per cent by S. carpocapsae after 48 hrs of treatment at EPNs suspension of 50-300 IJs/ml (1 ml per larva).
