Ebook "Packaging for food preservation (Food engineering series)" will be focused on the three most important aspects of food packaging: Modeling, Materials and Packaging Strategies. The modeling section will provide a complete overview of mass transport phenomena in polymers intended for food packaging applications. The materials section will cover the most interesting problem-solving solutions in the field of food packaging, i.e., low environmental impact active films with antimicrobial activity.

Ebook "Antibiofilm agents: From diagnosis to treatment and prevention (Volume 8)" provides a survey of recent advances in the development of antibiofilm agents for clinical and environmental applications. The fact that microbes exist in structured communities called biofilms has slowly become accepted within the medical community. We now know that over 80% of all infectious diseases are biofilm-related; however, significant challenges still lie in our ability to diagnose and treat these extremely recalcitrant infections.

Feathers cause environmental problems worldwide when poultry processing industries produce it as a waste of billions of tons yearly. This waste is not easily decomposed by natural agents in a short time. Currently, Streptomyces spp. are known as a highly enzymatic activity species which can efficiently degrade feathers to products. Therefore, the aim of this study was to screen for Streptomyces strains with high feather-degrading activity.

The antibacterial agent triclosan (TCS) is added to many daily-used consumer products and can therefore reach the aquatic environment via treated wastewater and potentially harm aquatic ecosystems. A 120 days pond mesocosm study was conducted in order to investigate the fate of TCS in water and sediment, its bioaccumulative potential in different biota as well as the effects of TCS and its main transformation product methyl-triclosan (MTCS) on plankton, periphyton, macrophytes, and benthos communities.

Their management relies primarily on agrochemicals with short persistence; widespread use of these chemicals causes environmental and human health problems. The challenge of sustainable viticulture is to provide ecologically sound alternatives. In this regard, the application of entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) and natural products derived from their symbionts can be an alternative. EPNs are well-known biocontrol agents for soil-dwelling insects.

Moxifloxacin (MOX) is a fourth-generation synthetic fluoroquinolone antibacterial agent with many important therapeutic properties. Fluorescence quenching was used to study the interaction of MOX with calf thymus DNA (ctDNA) in aqueous solution. As the most common genetic material of various biosomes in nature, deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) plays a key role in different kinds of vital processes including gene expression, mutagenesis, cell death, etc.

A new method based on the combination of carrier element-free coprecipitation and flame atomic absorption spectrometric determination has been investigated for simultaneous separation and preconcentration of Pb(II) and Cu(II) ions in some environmental solid and liquid samples. The 2-{3-(4-methylbenzyl)-4-[2-(1H-indol-3-yl)ethyl]-5-oxo-4,5-dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl}-N’-(phenylmethylene) acetohydrazide (MITA) was utilized as an organic coprecipitating agent without using a carrier element for coprecipitation of the analyte ions.
