This thesis develops a contingency-based model for competitive advantage, tested over time on a sample of rapidly growing small-to-medium enterprises. Incorporating two independent studies, the project addresses interactions between specific elements of strategic orientation, strategic behaviour, firm performance, while examining the moderating role of environmental turbulence.

Pest control practices in the vegetable crops have been heavily dominated by the routine use of broad-spectrum insecticides to control pests. Concerns have emerged about the adverse consequences of over use of pesticide. These consequences include short and longterm health hazards, contamination and environmental degradation. To minimize the pest losses farmers heavily depend on the chemical pesticides and accessing pest management information from the pesticide dealers due to weak state extension support system.

This thesis researched the influence of ETBs on exporters from developing countries and their corresponding strategies through a case study of the Chinese organic food industry. Initially, a description of international trade and world export was developed, including their roles in the process of globalization. Trade barriers generated in international trade were then explained, with the focus on NTBs, especially ETBs. Lastly, the link between ETBs and market access was described and then the purpose of this study was proposed.

This research investigates the current white spaces of green marketing and country of origin effects, where new research could contribute theoretical value. The conducted research examines American and Swedish consumers’ environmental awareness, willingness and initiative in contributing to their societies for future sustainability. Using a sample of 118 consumers from an intermediated questionnaire for the offline market, a conceptual framework was developed where the study created the foundation and reasonable support for the purposed framework.

A thermostable enzyme from the hyperthermophilic sul-phate-reducing archaeon, Archaeoglobus fulgidus, was expressed and characterized on the assumption that it is homologous to exonuclease III from Escherichia coli. Sequence similaritydatabase searcheswere performedbased on the amino acid sequence of exonuclease III. The 774bp longgenewas isolated froma culture sample andcloned into different vectors.

bR, N-like and O-like intermediate states of [ 15 N]methionine-labelled wild type and D85N⁄T170C bacteriorhodopsin were accumulated in native membranes by controlling the pH of the preparations. 15 N cross polariza-tion and magic angle sample spinning (CPMAS) NMR spectroscopy allowed resolution of seven out of nine resonances in the bR-state. It was possible to assign some of the observed resonances by using 13 C⁄ 15 N rota

Membrane proteins are highly underrepresented in structural data banks due to tremendous difficulties that occur upon approaching their structural analysis. Inefficient sample preparation from conventional cellular expres-sion systems is in many cases the first major bottleneck.

Constitutively expressed human cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6; EC 1.14.14.1) is responsible for the metabolism of approximately 25% of drugs in common clinical use. It is widely accepted that CYP2D6 is localized in the endoplasmic reticulum of cells; however, we have identified this enzyme in the mitochondria of human liver samples and found that extensive inter-individual variability exists with respect to the level of the mitochondrial enzyme.

Blood clam (Scapharca subcrenata) was collected monthly from Pusan, Korea to investigate the reproductive cycle and the occurrence of mud worm (Polydora sp.). Histological observation showed that S. subcrenata started their gametogensesis as early as March when environmental temperature increased. Most of clams underwent ripe stage in June and some of observed samples already spawned in July.
