In this thesis, focus on the wireless links between devices equipped by deployed operating personnel and intermediary access point infrastructure. We use multi-radio (MR) platforms, wireless devices with multiple and diverse transceiver technologies, to produce robust and reliable links through adaptive control of available transceivers. Primarily, we study the application of intelligent control techniques, namely reinforcement learning (RL), for adaptive control over diverse transceivers to achieve the desired robustness and reliability under dynamic environmental conditions.

The aim of this study is to enhance biogas production from the organic fraction of municipal solid waste (OFMSW) and garden waste (GW) via pretreatment and codigestion. In order to achieve the aims of the study, two objectives have been developed and are outlined below: To investigate an optimum co-digestion mixture of OFMSW with untreated and pretreated GW; to investigate the effectiveness of different pretreatments on the potential for biogas production from GW and to identify the relationship between certain changes in GW characteristics and enhanced yield.

Once the mechanical properties of printed TPU are characterised, a novel, low cost, and environmentally friendly method for concrete casting using printed TPU moulds is proposed in this thesis. The findings of this thesis will provide clear guidelines for the selection of processing parameters for additively manufactured TPU parts and the method of casting complicated concrete structures with additively manufactured TPU mould.

The human population continues to grow steadily with the shrinking resources being used for agricultural production situates great challenge against Indian agricultural system to attain food and environmental security. To counter these twin challenges in the country there is urgent need of application of modern Hi-tech technologies for enhancing the productivity and sustainability of the rice-wheat system for long term on scientific basis. Precision farming (PF) looks a win-win technology towards improving the capability of agricultural land to produce crops on sustainable basis.

Human glandular kallikrein 2 (hK2) is a trypsin-like serine protease expressed predominantly in the prostate epithelium. Recently, hK2 has proven to be a useful marker that can be used in combination with prostate specific antigen for screening and diagnosis of prostate cancer. The cleavage by hK2 of certain substrates in the proteolytic cascade suggest that the kallikrein may be involved in prostate cancer development; however, there has been very little other progress toward its biochemical characterization or elucidation of its true physiological role.

Insulin-like growth factor (IGF) binding to the type 1 IGF receptor (IGF1R) elicits mitogenic eects, promotion of dierentiation and protection from apoptosis. This study has systematically measured IGF1R binding anities of IGF-I, IGF-II and 14 IGF analogues to a recombinant high-anity form of the IGF1R using BIAcore technology. The analogues assessed could be divided into two groups: (a) those designed to investigate binding of IGF-binding protein, which exhibited IGF1R-binding anities similar to those of IGF-I or IGF-II;...

Bioremediation presents a potentially low cost and environmentally agreeable alternative to current physico-chemical remediation strategies. However, heavy metals such as mercury cannot be converted into non-toxic forms by naturally occurring bacteria. Annual global emissions estimates for mercury released into the environment are in the thousands of tons per year [1,2] while the remediation cost is in the thousands of dollars per pound. Finding new bioremediation technologies is an urgent need.

CD40 is areceptorwithnumerous functions in theactivation of antigenpresentingcells (APCs), particularlydendritic cells (DC). Using phage display technology, we identified linear peptides containing a novel FPGN/S consensus sequence that enhances the binding of phage to a purified murine CD40-immunoglobulin (Ig) fusion protein (CD40-Ig), but not to Ig alone. To examine the ability theFPGN/Speptides to enhance adenoviral infection of CD40-positive cells, we used bifunctional peptides consisting of an FPGN-contain-ing peptide covalently linked to an adenoviral knob-binding peptide (KBP)....

Antisense agents are valuable tools to inhibit the expression of a target gene in a sequence-specific manner, and may be used for functional genomics, target validation and thera-peuticpurposes.Three typesof anti-mRNAstrategies canbe distinguished. Firstly, the use of single stranded antisense-oligonucleotides; secondly, the triggering of RNA cleavage through catalytically active oligonucleotides referred to as ribozymes; and thirdly,RNA interference induced by small interfering RNA molecules.

In the photosynthetic bacterium Rhodobacter capsulatus, the synthesis of the energy-producing hydrogenase, HupSL, is regulated by the substrate H2, which is detected by a regulatory hydrogenase, HupUV. The HupUV protein exhibits typical features of [NiFe] hydrogenases but, interestingly, is resistant to inactivation by O2. Understanding the O2 resistance of HupUV will help in the design of hydrogenases with high potential for bio-technological applications.

Biofertilisers are defined in this application as microbial inoculants, isolated from soil or the rhizosphere of plants, assisting the mobilisation of soil nutrients such as N and P and others in the plant rhizosphere and thus promoting the growth rate and yield of plants. Successful biofertilisers can contribute to increases in food production in a highly sustainable manner, with economic and environmental advantages.
