  • Furthermore, biochemical results were also in agreement with the molecular data, with enhanced antioxidant enzyme activities of peroxidase and catalase, and in couple with lower cellular content of the reactive oxygen species hydrogen peroxide in the transgenic plants. Taken these altogether, the transgenic plants might acquire advantages in dealing with oxidative stress using enzymes and proline, as well as cellular Na+ removal under salinity stress conditions.

  • Studies on soybean GmNAC085 transcription factor revealed that the gene expression in plants was induced by water shortage treatments and its overexpression in the model plant Arabidopsis displayed improved plant tolerance characteristics towards drought stress. In this study, we continued analyzing the biological functions of GmNAC085 using transgenic soybean system overexpressing GmNAC085 gene, by targeting at a number of plant physiological features and biochemical activities in response to limited water growing condition.

  • The present investigation was undertaken with the objectives to study the biochemical composition of Pleurotus florida grown on different straw substrates and activity of cellulolytic enzymes produced by Pleurotus florida under in vitro conditions. The results revealed that, the biochemical composition of P. florida raised on three straw substrates exhibited higher percentage of fat (2.33%) on soybean straw followed by wheat (1.74%) and paddy straw substrate (1.65%) on dry weight basis.

  • A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of integrated nutrient management on soil microbial biomass carbon and enzyme activity under soybean of a Typic Haplustepts was conducted at Instructional Farm, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur during consecutive Kharif seasons of the year 2014 and 2015. Among the integrated nutrient management practices, the microbial biomass carbon and enzymatic activity of soil found decreasing order from flowering to at harvesting stage as well as the depth 0-15 and 15-30 cm during both the years of experiment and pooled basis.

  • We compared the enzymatic antioxidative defence mechanisms of some regional soybean genotypes cultivated mainly in the regions of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. The variability in the activities of antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), catalase (CAT), and peroxidase (POD) and their changes under drought stress were investigated. The higher activity levels of antioxidant enzymes may contribute to better stress tolerance by increasing protection capacity against oxidative damage.

  • Cowpea aphid (Aphis craccivora Koch) infestation accumulated phytohormone salicylic acid (SA) in leaves of soybean (Glycine max cv. Namdan) as these soybean plants were at stages R1 (beginning to bloom) and R3 (beginning pod development). Activity of major enzymes involving biosynthesis of SA, such as phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL), benzoic acid 2-hydroxylase (BA2H), was also enhanced under aphid effect.
