The main objective of the study was to reduce the drudgery of the female farm workers and to recommend the proper method for doing shelling operations of maize cobs. Use of proper method not only reduces the drudgery but also improves the operating efficiency along with the comfort, besides improving the productivity of the women farm workers in doing the operation. In view of this, an effort has been made to assess the physical and physiological parameters of women farm workers who are following traditional method along with the improved method for doing shelling operation of maize cobs.

The world production of vegetables, India is the second largest producer next to china. In India, there is no mechanization available for onion transplanting. The transplanting of onion seedlings mainly depends on farm workers. So, manually operated two row paper pot onion transplanter was developed. In agricultural mechanization, the major role of ergonomics is to increase the efficiency of the operation. The study was conducted to evaluate the manually operated two row paper pot onion transplanter and compared with conventional method of transplanting.

Complaints of the arm, neck, and shoulders (CANS) have a multifactorial etiology, and, therefore, their assessment should consider both work-related ergonomic and psychosocial aspects. The Maastricht Upper Extremity Questionnaire (MUEQ) is one of a few specific tools available to evaluate the nature and occurrence of CANS in computer-office workers and the impact of psychosocial and ergonomic aspects on work conditions.

Agriculture is an important unorganized sector where majority of the women labour force is engaged. Women as agricultural labourers, participate in several activities such as seeding, transplanting, weeding, fertilizer application, plant protection, thinning, harvesting, processing, selling, harvesting, winnowing, storing, looking after animals, kitchen gardening etc. The farm women adopt long static postures for some of the farm activities, which increase the static muscular effort resulting in high physiological cost and low productivity.

Power weeder uproots the weeds between the paddy crop rows with 25 cm row to row distance, in addition to, it keeps the soil surface loose for better soil aeration and water intake capacity. In this study modification was done to existing STIHL power weeder which is operated in line with the attachment of float and covering structure on weeding wheel to avoid mud splash over operator. In this study, the existing weeder and modified weeder has studied ergonomically. 3-axis accelerometer, showed that modified weeder has less vibration of 1.984 m/s2 from the existing weeder.

Weed is a crop which is grown along with the main crop and competes for sunlight, food, water and space. Weeding is very tedious operation as compared to all other agriculture operations. Most parts of the country weeding operation is being done by manual methods and also by mechanical methods. Drudgery involved in weeding operation increases stress on worker causing increase in heart rate and oxygen consumption. The main objective of the study was to evaluate the agronomical evaluation of power weeder. The heart rate and oxygen consumption rate of operator was varied from 131.0 to 145.

A double chain-sprocket winnower was developed to reduce the hand drudgery and increase the efficiency of the winnower. The winnower consisted of two stage chain and sprocket transmission system with an overall speed increment ratio of 6. The performance and ergonomical evaluation of the developed winnower was carried out using anemometer and pulse oximeter, respectively. Both the evaluation parameters were compared with the pinion driven winnower and single chain-sprocket type winnower.

The present study was planned to assess the drudgery and postural discomfort level on the performance of hanging grain cleaner in comparison to the traditional sieve. Thirty farm women of adopted villages of KVK Ratlam were randomly selected for the study. The results of the study indicated that the amount of energy consumed or spent by the farm women were observed to be lower while performing selected activities with the improved technologies as compared to the adopted traditional methods.

The developed weeder should have the following features: 2.0 hp, 2-stroke petrol engine. It is compact light low weight equipment, self-propelled with durable floating system. It is centrally driven with worm gear box for transmission. The working width of the developed machine could be adjusted between 140mm to 250mm.

An Experiment was performed to comparative study of forearm postural stress in selected wheel hoe and modified wheel hoe for ergonomically compatible design. Modified tool (handle 350 with vertically downward) was evaluated with existing wheel hoe (handle 600 with vertically downward) in terms postural stresses, as BPDS, ODS, shoulder elbow and wrist deviations. The BPDS for existing ranges from 33.0 to 35.23 and for modified 27.43 to 31.20.
