Tackling multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli requires evidence from One Health studies that capture numerous potential reservoirs in circumscribed geographic areas. Methods: We conducted a survey of extended β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing E. coli isolated from patients, canals and livestock wastewater in eastern Thailand between 2014 and 2015, and analyzed isolates using whole genome sequencing.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an increasing global health concern reducing options for therapy of infections and also for perioperative prophylaxis. Many Enterobacteriaceae cannot be treated anymore with third generation cephalosporins (3GC) due to the production of certain 3GC hydrolysing enzymes (extended spectrum beta-lactamases, ESBLs).

This study was done to assess the occurrence of virulence factors and correlation of phylogenetic grouping in ESBLs producing E. coli isolates from Palestine. Twenty-seven ESBLs producing E. coli isolates were collected between April and June 2013 from three hospitals in Gaza. Detection of genes encoding virulence factors, pathogenicity associated island marker (PAI) and phylogenetic groups were studied by PCR. The correlation of E. coli phylogenetic grouping with the virulence factors in the isolates was studied.

Enterobacteriaceae are the most frequently isolated organisms from clinical specimens. Among them Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae cause a wide variety of clinical infections. With the emergence of ESBLs, carbapenems became the drug of choice. During the past decade, there has been an emergence of carbapenems-resistant Enterobacteriaceae that produce carbapenamases.

The study was aimed to detect the occurrence and characterize extended-spectrum (ESBL) and AmpC (ACBL) beta-lactamases producing pathogenic E. coli (STEC) in diarrhoeal faecal samples collected from bovines. All the E. coli strains (13/21, 61.9%) isolated from bovine diarrhoea cases (n=21) were found to be ESBL producers. In total, 11 (84.6%) isolates were positive in cefoxitin– cloxacillin double-disc synergy (CC-DDS) test for AmpC production and the isolates were also confirmed by PCR for blaAmpC.

Extended spectrum beta lactamase producers are posing a major obstacle in the therapeutic outcome of patients. They cause enzymatic hydrolysis of the beta lactum ring, resulting in resistance to penicillins and cephalosporins. The rise in ESBL producers results in prolonged treatment which leads to increased hospital stay and financial burden on the patient. It is necessary for all the hospitals to monitor ESBL producers to formulate preventive and therapeutic measures accordingly. The study was conducted in a tertiary care hospital during the period from December 2015 to November 2016.

Escherichia coli is the most common organism causing urinary tract infection (UTI). This organism has the ability to produce Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamases (ESBLs), which confer multiple drug resistance making urinary tract infection difficult to treat. So treatment of UTI requires constant updating of the antibiotic sensitivity profile. Objectives of this study were to detect prevalence of ESBL production among E. coli isolates causing urinary tract infection and to detect their antibiotic susceptibility pattern.

Antimicrobial resistance is a growing threat worldwide. Increasing resistance to third generation cephalosporins has become a cause for concern. The prevalence of extended spectrum–lactamases (ESBLs) and metallobetalactamases (MBL) among members of Enterobacteriaceae constitutes a serious threat to current -lactam therapy leading to treatment failure. A total of 276 Gram negative isolates were processed. ESBL was detected by phenotypic confirmatory disc diffusion test (PCDDT) using ceftazidime alone and in combination with clavulanic acid.

The use of plant products as medicine has emerged from traditional days to modern times of medicine in order to improve the quality life of the patients worldwide. Nature-derived medicines are considered safer with less or no side effects. The antibacterial effect of the leaves of Annona muricata was evaluated on bacterial strains of ESBLs: Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae are tested which were isolated from D.Y. Patil Hospital, Nerul, NaviMumbai.

The infection of diabetic foot ulcer is a debilitating complication of long standing diabetes especially with resistant bacteria. The production of extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) by gram negative bacteria is widely prevalent. This study was carried out to identify the prevalence, antimicrobial resistant pattern, ESBL production and the presence of TEM and SHV genes among ESBL producing Escherichia Coli.

To isolate the bacterial pathogens causing asymptomatic bacteriuria in antenatal women,to study the drug resistance pattern and prevalence of MRSA and ESBL producers. Bacterial pathogens were isolated from 1000 urine samples collected from antenatal women following standard procedures. All the isolates were studied for antibiotic susceptibility pattern using modified Kirby bauer disc diffusion method. Resistant isolates were identified and studied for MRSA and ESBL by various methods. Out of 1000 urine samples culture positive were 118(11.8%). E.

The detection of extended- spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) producing bacteria is important for infection control and epidemiological surveillance. The purpose of the present study was to compare two phenotypic methods for detection of ESBL positive Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae in urinary isolates. This study was carried out in the Department of Microbiology, Rama Medical College, Kanpur(U.P), India from November 2015 to August 2016.

The poultry industry, especially chicken production has in recent times faced a major set-back due to devastating effects of APEC Extended Spectrum BetaLactases (ESBL) producing organisms. This research aimed at investigating antimicrobial susceptibility profile and diversity of ESBL producing avian pathogenic Escherichia coli(APEC) among fecal cloacal swaps of scavenging local chickens based on the various housing systems. The APEC isolates were determined by virulence factor profiling and by Kirby-Baeur disc diffusion, 42% of the APEC isolates were found to be ESBL producers.

Emergence of Extended spectrum beta lactamase (ESBL) production among the above organisms is a great matter of concern. Hence, the present study is envisaged to know the distribution status of ESBL producing E. coli and Salmonella spp. from raw milk samples.
