Essential oils of Magnolia balansae A. DC. growing wild in Son La (leaf, twig and fruit) and Phu Tho (fruit) provinces of Vietnam were obtained by hydrodistillation and were analyzed using GC/MS-FID. From 30 to 49 compounds were identified accounting for 66.1–80.0% of the oils.

In Vietnam, there was a report in 1996 on the chemical composition of the essential oils from the leaves and flowers of two cultivars of A. sinensis. Unfortunately, at that time, the authors were not able to investigate the root oil of these plants (Nguyen Xuan Dung et al., 1996). In the present study, we report on the chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of essential oils obtained from the roots, flowers, fruits, and a mixture of leaves and stems of A. sinensis cultivated in Hung Yen province, Vietnam.

In this study, natural ingredients were added to bio-soaps, synthesized from castor oil, a plant-derived ingredient, to improve the detergency, anti-bacterial, and stability capabilities (saponin from Soapacean fruit and essential oil of chamomile) of such soap. The saponin from soapnut fruit was extracted by an extraction process based on ethanol extraction.

In our current phytochemical investigation on the Tunisian plant Lycium arabicum Schweinf. ex Boiss., we attempted to explore the oil obtained from its fruits. This oil was extracted by cold maceration with ethanol and was analyzed to estimate its sterol and fatty acid content. The physicochemical parameters of the oil were also examined. They were specified in terms of acid value (0.8 ± 0.01 mg KOH g–1 oil), peroxide value (10.9 ± 0.02 meq O2 kg–1 oil), saponification value (162.97 ± 0.03 mg KOH g–1 oil), chlorophylls (1.011 ± 0.03 mg kg–1 oil) and carotenoids (42.1 ± 0.05mg kg–1 oil).

The essential oils of Actinolema macrolema Boiss. (Apiaceae) were obtained by hydrodistillation in the first 3 (sample A) and the following 3 h (sample B) from crushed fruits and dried leaves (sample C), which were subsequently analyzed by GC and GC-MS. Overall, 64 components were characterized, representing 93% of the leaf oil. Thirty components were characterized from the fruit oil representing 95% of the first fraction and 90% of the second fraction consecutively.

In this study, the essential oil from the leaves of bael tree was extracted and added as an additional income to the farmers along with its fruits, timber, fodder and other domestic usages. The essential oil yield from the leaves of bael tree was obtained by hydro-distillation. A socio-economic survey in the Bisht Village and Kirsali village of district Dehradun, Uttarakhnad was conducted and the existing role of bael tree in rural agroforestry and economy was also assessed.

A refined analytical method has been developed for the determination of the isotope ratio of oxygenated compounds in essential oils, using high-resolution gas chromatographymass spectrometry (HRGC-MS), has been developed. Thirty-three samples of yuzu fruits from different production areas in Japan and South Korea were collected and prepared for cold-pressed peel oils. The oils were analysed by HRGC-MS for linalool concentration and isotope ratio based on the peak intensities of (M+2)+ , (M+1)+ and M+ ions.

The methods for obtaining simultaneously essential oil and shikimic acid from star anise fruit (Illicium verum Hook) were investigated. From obtained results, we chose a simple and effective method for desired purpose. With this method, distillation of essential oil and extraction of shikimic acid were simultaneously carried out in the round bottom flask of the Clevenger apparatus. The yield of essential oil and shikimic acid were 9.5% and 5.6% (r.m), respectively as well as the quality of the products is very good. ...
