Selenium (Se) is an essential trace element, and its deficiency in the humans leads to increase the risk of various diseases, such as cancer and heart diseases. The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of biofield energy treatment on the physical and thermal properties of the selenium powder. The selenium powder was divided into two parts denoted as control and treated.

Hexavalent chromium, Cr(VI), is a highly toxic species, while trivalent chromium, Cr(III), is an essential trace element for humans and other organisms. In the present work, a simple, rapid, and efficient procedure for water treatment of Cr(VI) is described. Active carbon (AC) was chemically treated with HCl and NaOH for the formation of surface modified Acidic-AC and Basic-AC sorbents, respectively. In addition, AC sorbent was treated with HNO3 as an oxidizing agent and sodium sulfite as a reducing agent for the formation of Ox-AC and Rd-AC sorbents, respectively.

This study also observed that supplements like minimal essential medium amino acids and B complex vitamins individually has further enhanced the bacteriocin activity by 13% (total 33%), biomass by 43%, total protein and activity by 17% and 22% respectively. However, addition of some common growth supplements like multivitamins with trace elements, CaCl2 and MgSO4 had shown inhibitory effect on bacteriocin activity.

Selenium is an essential trace element, and selenocysteine (Sec, U) is its predominant form in vivo. Proteins that contain Sec are selenoproteins, whose special structural features include not only the TGA codon encoding Sec but also the SECIS element in mRNA and the conservation of the Sec-flanking region.

This research was approved by the Ethics Committee of Dong Nai General Hospital. The fingernail collected from 29 women with breast cancer and 30 healthy women, who are the same age and living in Dong Nai province, Vietnam. The concentrations of Fe, Se, and Zn in the fingernails were determined using the k0-INAA method. The analytical data were evaluated using some statistical analysis for the correlation of trace elements in the fingernails of both groups.

Maize is one of the most produced cereal crops in the world and is eaten by a billion people in a variety of food products. Zinc, an essential trace element is found in maize but inhibited by phytates present in it. The level of phytate can be reduced by processing of maize grains. The present investigation was undertaken to see the effect of changes on zinc and phytic acid. Among the processing methods like roasting, boiling and lime treatment, an increase in zinc content (7.28%) and decrease in phytic acid (13.

Heavy metal is a general technical term that applies to the group of metals and metalloids with density greater than 4±1 g cm-3 or elements having atomic weight more than 20. Heavy metals are considered toxic to living organisms and even trace metals that are considered essential for life can be toxic when present at excessive level, impair important biochemical process and also pose threat to human health, plant growth and animal life. The heavy metals, As, Cd, Cr, Ni and Pb were found accumulated in seeds collected from various sites.

Fruit Crops yield and quality significantly increase with the use of micronutrients such as zinc (Zn), iron (Fe), Calcium (Ca) Magnesium (Mg) Boron (B), Copper (Cu), Manganese (Mn), etc. Zinc (Zn) has an important metabolically role in plants vegetative and reproductive phases; growth and development; is therefore called an essential trace element or a micronutrient.

It is a general belief that the fruits and vegetables that our parents ate when they were growing up were more nutritious and enriched with essential mineral nutrients and were less contaminated with toxic trace elements than the ones that are being consumed by us currently. A study of the mineral content of fruits and vegetables grown in Great Britain between 1930 and 1980 has added weight to that belief with findings of such decreases in nutrient density.

This book is about what we consider the essentials of human nutrition. The science of human nutrition deals with all the effects on people of any component found in food. This starts with the physiological and biochemical processes involved in nourishment—how substances in food provide energy or are converted into body tissues, and the diseases that result from insufficiency or excess of essential nutrients (malnutrition). The role of food components in the development of chronic degenerative disease like coronary heart disease, cancers, dental caries, etc.

Harrison's Internal Medicine Chapter 70. Nutritional Requirements and Dietary Assessment Nutritional Requirements and Dietary Assessment: Introduction Nutrients are substances that must be supplied by the diet because they are not synthesized in the body in sufficient amounts. Nutrient requirements for groups of healthy persons have been determined experimentally. For good health we require energy-providing nutrients (protein, fat, and carbohydrate), vitamins, minerals, and water.
