In this report, we examine the unsteady Stokes equations with nonhomogeneous boundary conditions. As an application of a Carleman estimate, we first establish log type stabilities for the solution of the equations from either an interior measurement of the velocity, or a boundary observation depending on the trace of the velocity and of the Cauchy stress tensor measurements on a part of the boundary.

Unsaturated soil behaviors characterize the failure mechanisms of geotechnical infrastructures with transient seepage conditions. Therefore, an accurate estimate of the unsaturated groundwater flow is vital in improving hazard management and assessment. This study attempts to develop a numerical scheme for 2-D transient analysis under unsaturated conditions.

The target of this project is to construct a general and feasible procedure to determine the acidic equilibrium constants in aqueous solution at 25oC from the data of the potentiometric titration process in a rapid, simple and effective way. Then it will be applied to estimate the equilibrium constants of some new acids.

In this paper, we will extend the result of Farina to the general case a0 and look for the effect of the degeneracy on the range of the exponent p on Liouville-type theorem. It seems that the presence of the weight term |x|a makes the problem more challenging. The main difficulty is that the Grushin operator is nonautonomous. This requires suitable scaled test functions in the integral estimate.

In this paper, we estimate the scale of time consumption of such calculation in comparison to that of time-independent calculation, and present our solution to the problem by using parallel computing as implementing both MPI and OpenMP to the calculation. We also discuss the possibility to exploit parallel computing with GPU in the near future, and the preliminary results of time-dependent spectral function.

The evaporation of I2 was observed to follow primarily first order kinetics, depending on the I2 concentration. The evaporation rate constant increased rapidly with increase in temperature. The presence of Ie slightly reduced the evaporation rate of I2 by forming relatively stable I 3 . The effect of Cle at

The existence problem is solved, and global pointwise estimates of solutions are obtained for quasilinear and Hessian equations of Lane-Emden type, including the following two model problems: −∆p u = uq + µ, Fk [−u] = uq + µ, u ≥ 0, on Rn , or on a bounded domain Ω ⊂ Rn . Here ∆p is the p-Laplacian defined by ∆p u = div ( u| u|p−2 ), and Fk [u] is the k-Hessian defined as the sum of k × k principal minors of the Hessian matrix D2 u (k = 1, 2, . . . ,...

In this paper, we prove global second derivative estimates for solutions of the Dirichlet problem for the Monge-Amp`re equation when the inhomogee neous term is only assumed to be H¨lder continuous. As a consequence of our o approach, we also establish the existence and uniqueness of globally smooth solutions to the second boundary value problem for the affine maximal surface equation and affine mean curvature equation.

Introduction The purpose of this paper is to prove optimal estimates for solutions of the Kohn-Laplacian for certain classes of model domains in several complex variables. This will be achieved by applying a type of singular integral operator whose novel features (related to product theory and flag kernels) differ essentially from the

This is the first in a series of papers in which we initiate the study of very rough solutions to the initial value problem for the Einstein-vacuum equations expressed relative to wave coordinates. By very rough we mean solutions which cannot be constructed by the classical techniques of energy estimates and Sobolev inequalities. Following [Kl-Ro] we develop new analytic methods based on Strichartz-type inequalities which result in a gain of half a derivative relative to the classical result. ...

This is the second in a series of three papers in which we initiate the study of very rough solutions to the initial value problem for the Einstein vacuum equations expressed relative to wave coordinates. By very rough we mean solutions which cannot be constructed by the classical techniques of energy estimates and Sobolev inequalities. In this paper we develop the geometric analysis of the Eikonal equation for microlocalized rough Einstein metrics. This is a crucial step in the derivation of the decay estimates needed in the first paper. ...

A MODIFIED QUASI-BOUNDARY VALUE METHOD FOR A CLASS OF ABSTRACT PARABOLIC ILL-POSED PROBLEMS M. DENCHE AND S. DJEZZAR Received 14 October 2004; Accepted 9 August 2005 We study a final value problem for first-order abstract differential equation with positive self-adjoint unbounded operator coefficient. This problem is ill-posed. Perturbing the final condition, we obtain an approximate nonlocal problem depending on a small parameter. We show that the approximate problems are well posed and that their solutions converge if and only if the original problem has a classical solution.

MULTIPLICITY RESULTS FOR A CLASS OF ASYMMETRIC WEAKLY COUPLED SYSTEMS OF SECOND-ORDER ORDINARY DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS FRANCESCA DALBONO AND P. J. MCKENNA Received 1 November 2004 We prove the existence and multiplicity of solutions to a two-point boundary value problem associated to a weakly coupled system of asymmetric second-order equations. Applying a classical change of variables, we transform the initial problem into an equivalent problem whose solutions can be characterized by their nodal properties.

It is shown that in some cases the exponential estimates can be replaced with a more precise limit relation.
