Estimation of extent of variability

This study examines how Vietnam’s rice productivity responses to climate change, and estimates the extent to which climate change is influencing Vietnam’s rice productivity by incorporating climatic variables such as temperature, precipitation, storm into regression equations by using panel data from 2006 to 2018 in 19 provinces of Vietnam.

The success of most crop improvement programs depends on variability and heritability of desirable traits. An investigation was carried out during kharif 2016 at Botanical garden, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, India to assess the extent of variability generated by hybridization and to estimate the heritability and genetic advance as percent of mean for seed cotton yield and its component traits in F2 generation of cross QTP 16 × ASa 151. The segregating population thus obtained was evaluated for eight quantitative traits.

An investigation was carried out with the eighteen high sucrose containing sugarcane clones to estimate the extent of variability for various productive traits under water-logged condition. The analysis of variance revealed highly significant differences among the clones for fourteen traits and significant for rest traits viz., germination % at 45 DAP, plant height at 150 days, single cane weight and purity % at 10 month stage.

Ninety-three early generation sugarcane clones were evaluated for different morphological and juice quality characters among early generation sugarcane clones. Highest genotypic coefficient of variance (GCV) and phenotypic coefficient of variance (PCV) were recorded for Number of millable cane (NMC) and single cane weight respectively. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance as percent of means was observed for germination percent, NMC/hectare, cane height and inter node length. It indicated that direct selection of those traits would be effective.

An experiment was made to assess extant of genetic variability among fifty germplasm accessions of Indian mustard with three check varieties for various quantitative characters, heritability and genetic advance also estimated for such characters. Analysis of variance revealed highly significant differences for all the characters. The genotypes showed moderate to high level of genotypic coefficient of variance (GCV) and phenotypic coefficient of variance (PCV).

The present investigation was carried out at Forest College and Research Institute, Mettupalayam, Tamil Nadu to estimate the extent of variability and association present for seed parameters of Prosopis juliflora Dc. across its natural distribution in south India for further collection of seeds for afforestation or breeding purpose. The present investigation was carried out at rice research farm ofBihar Agricultural University, Sabour (Bhagalpur), Bihar in kharif, 2019 to assess the extent of genetic variability for yield and yield related traits and to estimate heritability and genetic advance in rice genotypes for drought tolerance. The analysis of variance revealed highly significant variation among the genotypes for all the traits studied, under both the environments. A study was undertaken to determine the extent of genetic variability for seed yield and ten other quantitative characters and two qualitative characters in 45 genotypes of Niger. The analysis of variance revealed significant differences among genotypes for all the characters. High genotypic coefficient and phenotypic coefficient of variation was recorded for number of secondary branches per plant followed by number of capitula per plant, 1000 seed weight, seed yield per plant, number of seed per capitula and number of primary branches per plant, days to 50% flowering.

The present study aimed to estimate the general and specific combining ability variances and their effects, and extent of heterobeltiosis and economic heterosis for different quantitative characters in yellow sarson. Line × Tester analysis including 11 local germplasm lines and four testers illustrated the preponderance sca over gca for all the traits studied. Based on desirable GCA effects, PYSC-11-3, PYSC-11-36, PYSC-11-44 and PYSC-11-46 among lines and B-9 among testers were identified as promising donars for seed yield.

The present study was conducted to evaluate 38 greengram genotypes to determinethe nature and extent of variation in the phenological traits related to synchronous maturity. A field trial was laid under a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replications; observations were recorded on 17 morphological characters. Analysis of variance revealed significant variation among genotypes for all the characters except for 100 seed weight. Different genotypes were found superior for different characters.

The experimental material comprised of 33 genotypes including ‘Surajmukhi’ as standard check was evaluated in randomized complete block design with three replications during summer-rainy season 2017. The estimates of PCV and GCV were high for dry fruit yield/plant and it also showed high heritability coupled with high genetic advance along with marketable red ripe fruit yield/plant, non- marketable red ripe fruits/plant, dry fruit yield/plant and oleoresin content.
