A glucuronoarabinoxylan (CNAL) was extracted with 1% aq. KOH (25 ◦C)from Cocos nucifera gum exudate. It had a homogeneous profile on HPSEC-MALLS-RI (Mw 4.6 × 104 g/mol) and was composed of Fuc, Ara, Xyl, GlcpA (and 4-O-GlcpA) in a 7:28:62:3 molar ratio.

The role of ethanolic extract of Andrographis paniculata (AP), in preventing cisplatin (CP) induced oxidative damage in rat liver was studied. The study included 60 Wistar albino rats were divided into 12 rats in each group. Group I served as normal control group. To group II rats, CP was administered at 7.5mg/kg body weight intraperitoneally for single dose. Rats in group III were administered AP at the dose of 500mg/kg body weight for 45 days. Group IV rats were pre-treated with AP 15 days prior to CP administration and followed by AP treatment for 45 days.

This study aims to clarify the neuroprotective effects of ethanol extracts of Diospyros kaki (DK) leaves and Gardenia jasminoides (GJ) fruit on cerebral ischemia injury using middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) model in mice. Swiss albino mice were daily treated with DK extract (125-500 mg/kg b.w) and GJ extract (250-1,000 mg/kg b.w) for 1 week before being subjected to MCAO. The administration of edaravone (6 mg/kg, i.v), which was a reference drug, was started immediately after MCAO.

The current study was purposed to evaluate an acute toxicity and effects of lotus (Nulumbo nucifera Gaertn.) flower ethanolic extract (LFEE) on alloxan induced diabetic rats. In vivo acute toxicity study of LFEE was carried out via the guideline of the testing of Chemicals (OECD) by oral administration at limit test of 2000 mg/Kg and 5000 mg/Kg, the results showed that, LD50 was greater than the limit dose at 5000 mg/Kg.

Antipyretic effects of petroleum ether and ethyl acetate soluble fractions of ethanol extract of the leaves of Peperomia pellucida (Linn.) HBK (Fam. Piperaceae) were investigated. Intraperitoneal administration of boiled milk at a dose of 0.5 ml/kg body weight in albino rabbit leads to pyrexia.

Methanol (See also Chap. e34) The ingestion of methanol (wood alcohol) causes metabolic acidosis, and its metabolites formaldehyde and formic acid cause severe optic nerve and central nervous system damage. Lactic acid, ketoacids, and other unidentified organic acids may contribute to the acidosis. Due to its low molecular weight (32 Da), an osmolar gap is usually present. Metabolic Acidosis: Treatment This is similar to that for ethylene glycol intoxication, including general supportive measures, fomepizole or ethanol administration, and hemodialysis.
