Ebook "Forest hydrology and catchment management: An Australian perspective" focusses on the issues of small streams, including catchment definition, slope, hydrograph formation, water quality measurement, and annual water yield. The world-wide management issues of sustaining riparian forests are examined, using the River Murray forests as an example. Finally a large amount of information is drawn together to examine the management of forested catchments for water supplies.

Leaf blight caused by Calonectria spp. is one of the most destructive diseases to affect Eucalyptus nurseries and plantations. These pathogens mainly attack Eucalyptus, a tree with a diversity of secondary metabolites employed as defense-related phytoalexins. To unravel the fungal adaptive mechanisms to various phytoalexins, we examined the genome of C. pseudoreteaudii, which is one of the most aggressive pathogens in southeast Asia.

Eucalyptus is the main plantation wood species, mostly grown in aluminized acid soils. To understand the response of Eucalyptus clones to aluminum (Al) toxicity, the Al-tolerant Eucalyptus grandis × E. urophylla clone GL-9 (designated “G9”) and the Al-sensitive E. urophylla clone GL-4 (designated “W4”) were employed to investigate the production and secretion of citrate and malate by roots.

The study was conducted in 8 year old east-west and north-south directions bund plantation at CCS HAU, Hisar during 2015-2016 to evaluate the effect of Eucalyptus tereticornis bund planting on the yield of agricultural crops and soil properties in Haryana. Total biomass yield of dhaincha was significantly affected up to 3 m distance from tree line of both east-west and north-south planted rows of eucalypts.

The tree farming is ecologically as well as economically more viable than traditional agriculture. Investment in tree plantations always remained relatively low in India, inspite of the fact that the existing forests cannot continue to meet our wood requirements. However, realizing the existing problem, the expenditure on afforestation has increased enormously from fifth five year plan onwards but still the results on the land are not encouraging and we have not been able to increase area as well as the forest productivity to the desired level.

The most important diseases of eucalyptus in the plantations are leaf and shoot blight caused by Cryptosporiopsis eucalypti and associated with defoliation, dieback and mortality of eucalyptus trees. Disease causes major losses in nurseries and plantations resulting in failure of planting material and reduction of biomass production or loss of germplasm. Pathogenicity test using seedlings have shown that the fungus can infect stems as well as leaves.

The study was initiated to know the energy and nutrients utilization in wheat-weed ecosystem during the year 2016-17 and 2017-18 in 4 years old eucalyptus plantation in Randomized Block Design with three replications. The investigation was carried out at farmer field Village- Majitha Block-Shahpura District- Jabalpur (M.P.). The result revealed that Launaea nudicaulis, Rumax dentatus, Melilotus indicus, Chenopodium album and Phalaris minor are major weed found in experiment area. Launaea nudicaulis, Rumax dentatus, and Melilotus indicus had highest weed dry weight.

This experiment was carried out at farmer’s field to evaluate the performance of different agricultural crops under eucalypts plantation (establishment of plantation on September, 2014) at a spacing of 3.9 × 1.5 m during Rabi season 2014-15 and 2015-16, respectively. After 2 years of plantation, yield of agricultural crops (mustard, wheat, berseem and oat) were reduced significantly under eucalypts plantation in comparison to sole crop (devoid of tree). Among all the agricultural crops, the maximum yield was recorded in berseem (6.12 and 4.94 t/ha) which was closely followed by oat (5.

Tree growth, litter fall and leaf litter decomposition, nutrient return thought leaf litter and litter decomposition were 7 year old Eucalyptus tereticornis plantation. The Tree growth under agri-silvicultural system at the beginning of experiment the observations recorded with respect to certain growth parameters of Eucalyptus tereticornis have been shown Table 1 in 2014–2015. The maximum tree height (21.80 m) found in tree no 5; Dbh (22.63 cm) and canopy width (5.82 m) were recorded in the same tree number 3. Whereas the maximum canopy length (6.32 m) was found in the tree number 3.

In this study, three Vietnamese common plantation species Acacia mangium, Acacia hybrid (A. mangium x A. auriculiformis) and Eucalyptus urophylla in total nine sites (three sites per species) were selected. Each site had a different silvicultural or age regime including trees of the appropriate age/size class to meet the requirements for veneer production.

Eucalyptus plantations are an important source of raw materials for the forest products industry in Turkey. Despite its economic and ecological value, there is little reference information regarding the growth and yield of eucalyptus plantations. Thus, a segmented compatible stem taper and merchantable tree volume equation system was developed for eucalyptus plantations in the Eastern Mediterranean Region of Turkey.

The Research Centre for Forest Tree Improvement (RCFTI) is a unit within the Forest Science Institute of Vietnam (FSIV) which specialises in tree improvement research and delivery of genetically improved seed and planting stock to meet the planting requirements of the Government of Vietnam (GoV) as well as community and private sector plantation programs. RCFTI carries out an active program of research at stations throughout Vietnam, with its principal research station at Ba Vi.

In recent years Vietnam’s forest coverage has undergone rapid expansion, with a marked increase in plantings of exotic species of Eucalyptus, Acacia and Pinus. This expansion provides excellent opportunities for new international export markets for timber products. However it also represents new and increased risks from forestry pests and diseases, which in outbreak circumstances can have catastrophic consequences on plantation establishment and productivity. These risks come from pest and disease species already established in Vietnam, and exotic species not yet present in the country....
