Evaluation of rice genotypes

Quantum of genetic variability and the extent to which heritable and nonheritable variations are related to the characters, determines the extent of genetic amelioration. The present investigation was carried out in kharif, 2019 to understand the clustering pattern and correlation for yield attributing traits in aromatic landraces of rice. Here 90 aromatic rice landraces along with six check varieties were evaluated for 10 quantitative characters. Cluster analysis divided these 96 rice genotypes into 4 clusters.

A field experiment was conducted in kharif season of 2015 to investigate the influence of silicon solublizer on different rice genotypes namely PA-6129, PA-6201, PA-6444, PHB71, US-312, and BPT-5204. Soil application of silicon solubilizers was given at the time of maximum tillering, panicle initiation and 50% flowering stage. The experiment was arranged as split plot design with three treatments and three replications.

The primary step to biofortify rice can be successfully achieved after screening the folate distribution in rice germplasm accessions. The extent of natural variation in folate content needs to be determined to employ selection of genotypes or breeding for enhancement of folate levels. As such, there is very limited study in India on the genetic variation in rice germplasm for folate content. Selection of rice genotypes with higher folate content is the first step towards enhancement of folate levels in rice based foods.

Thirty seven rice genotypes were evaluated for their variability with regards to yield and yield components. Estimates of heritability and genetic advance in percent of mean were also obtained for the above traits. All the characters under study except days to fifty percent flowering exhibited high heritability coupled with high genetic advance as per cent of mean, which indicated that these traits were controlled by additive type of gene action in the inheritance of these characters.

Genetic analysis of biparental progenies resulted that, the traits viz,. days to 50% RWC and plant height were governed by additive gene action for improvement of these traits while, days to flowering, productive tillers per plant, 1000- grain weight, and grain yield can be improved by heterosis breeding. Main objective of the study was to evaluate rice genotypes for yield and yield related traits for heterosis to develop new breeding lines that can perform better in water stress conditions.

This study was undertaken to develop and analyze β-carotene rich upma supplementing with curry leaves powder (5, 7.5 and 10 %). Leaves were blanched for 15 seconds and dried using freeze drier. Developed upma were subjected to sensory evaluation by a panel of semi-trained judges. Proximate composition, dietary fibre and β-carotene were analysed in developed upma.

The present investigation was under taken during rabi 2014-15 under rice fallow condition at District Seed Farm Kalyani, BCKV, W.B. Fifteen elite genotypes of chickpea (3 kabuli and 12 desi) were taken to evaluate and select the better yielding genotype(s) based on the nodulation behavior as well as root morphology, suitable for new alluvial zone of West Bengal and also to estimate the correlation among different underground and above ground agromorphic traits including yield.

Sixty four landraces were evaluated for 10 yield and its component traits. Analysis of variance showed significant difference among the genotypes to all the characters under both control and low-moisture stress condition. Environmental influence was meagre on expression of characters as evidenced by narrow gap between GCV and PCV for most of the characters.
