  • (BQ) This paper is devoted to a study of the influences of EDM parameters on surface roughness for machining of 40CrMnNiMo864 tool steel (AISI P20) which is widely used in the production of plastic mold and die. The selected EDM parameters were pulsed current (8, 16 and 24 A), pulse time (2, 3, 4, 6, 12, 24, 48 and 100 s) and pulse pause time (2 and 3s). It was observed that surface roughness of workpiece and electrode were influenced by pulsed current and pulse time, higher values of these parameters increased surface roughness.

  • (BQ) This paper investigated the effects of machining parameters on surface roughness of wire EDMed DC53 die steel. The investigated machining parameters were pulse-on time, pulse-off time, pulse-peak current, and wire tension. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) technique was used to find out the parameters affecting the surface roughness. Assumptions of ANOVA were discussed and then examined through residual analysis. Quantitative testing methods on residual analysis were employed in place of the typical qualitative testing techniques.

  • (BQ) ilicon infiltrated silicon carbide (SiSiC) is developed. The influences of the major operating EDM parameters (discharge current ie, open gap voltage ui, discharge duration te and pulse interval to) of the iso energetic generator on the machining performances like Material Removal Rate (MRR), Tool Wear Ratio (TWR) and surface roughness (Ra) are examined. Relaxation pulses which have lower energy input are also considered to improve the surface quality.

  • The Von-Mises stress distribution and equivalent plastic strain (PEEQ) during cutting are then investigated. Finally, the evolution of cutting forces in cutting was examined. The presented Finite element model in this study proved to be useful in determination of cutting parameters, especially in high-speed machining.

  • We estimate the parameters of a phrasebased statistical machine translation system from monolingual corpora instead of a bilingual parallel corpus. We extend existing research on bilingual lexicon induction to estimate both lexical and phrasal translation probabilities for MT-scale phrasetables. We propose a novel algorithm to estimate reordering probabilities from monolingual data. We report translation results for an end-to-end translation system using these monolingual features alone.

  • A good decoding algorithm is critical to the success of any statistical machine translation system. The decoder’s job is to find the translation that is most likely according to set of previously learned parameters (and a formula for combining them). Since the space of possible translations is extremely large, typical decoding algorithms are only able to examine a portion of it, thus risking to miss good solutions.
