Examining environmental kuznets curve

This study analyzes the relationship of inclusive economic development to the quality of the environment in Indonesia. Secondary data used was derived from Bappenas, Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia, period from 2013 to 2017. The results showed that inclusive economic development still resulted in environmental degradation. The inclusive economic development index, which is one of the sustainable development goals that represent the achievement of economic dimensions and social dimensions, leads to degradation of the environmental extent.

In this study, New Zealand and Finland are examined by Autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model for the relationship between coal consumption and economic growth. For coal consumption and economic growth relationship, coal Kuznets curve is investigated for New Zealand for the period between 1980 and 2015 and is examined for Finland for the period between 1980 and 2013. Results of this study show that coal Kuznets curve is confirmed for New Zealand and Finland. Hao et al. (2016) confirmed coal Kuznets curve as this study confirmed in New Zealand and Finland.

CO2 emission are seen as an urgent problem in emerging economies because these countries are in the process of economic growth, trade liberalization and receiving foreign investment at a rapid rate, which puts pressure on the environment or causes pollution if not strictly controlled. This article examines the relationship between economic openness (free trade and foreign direct investment inflows) on CO2 emission under the influence of institution in these countries.

This study tests the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) while examining the role of renewable energy sources and FDI to potentially effect the amount of CO2 emissions in Vietnam. Using Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) approach, the relationship between CO2 emissions and GDP, FDI and sources of energy consumption has been investigated during 1980-2018 in Vietnam. The results of study reveal that there is non-existence EKC for Vietnam in long run and a sign of inverted U- shape in short run in this period.

In this study, the effect of external debt (EXD – current US$) on carbon dioxide emissions (CO2 – metric tons per capita) is examined by taking the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis as a basis for China. The relationships between CO2 , gross domestic product per capita (GDP – constant 2010 US$), square of GDP (GD), energy consumption (EM – kg of oil equivalent per capita) and EXD is examined.

The objective of this study is to examine the equilibrium relationship in the short and long term of energy consumption in Indonesia (ECI) and carbon dioxide emissions in Indonesia (CO2 EI) for the period of 1980-2014. The dependent variable is environment and CO2 emissions have been selected as an indicator for this variable while the independent variable in this study is energy consumption. In this study, quantitative method-based methodology has been selected.
