In this study, metal cations exchange and adsorption processes onto kaolinite surfaces are investigated using first-principles calculations. Obtained results indicate that the exchanges of cations are mostly unfavorable, and the Al sites are conveniently replaced compared to Si sites.

A low ligand density cation exchange (CEX) chromatography resin, Eshmuno® CP-FT resin, was investigated for the removal of aggregates from monoclonal antibody (mAb) feeds using a continuous loading process. Removing mAb aggregates with a CEX resin using continuous loading is advantageous relative to a bind/elute loading process.

Continuous stationary phase gradients for liquid chromatography (LC) have been recently shown to be a promising method of altering selectivity. In this work, we present the first multicomponent continuous stationary phase gradient for separations involving both reversed-phase (RP) and strong cation exchange (SCX) mechanisms.

Impact of the column on effluent pH in cation exchange pH gradient chromatography, a practical study
In ionexchange chromatography, the pH gradient mode becomes more and more popular today for the analysis of therapeutic proteins as this mode can provide higher or alternative selectivity to the commonly used salt gradient mode.

In this study, we present results obtained on the enantioseparation of some cationic compounds of pharmaceutical relevance, namely tetrahydro-ß-carboline and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline analogs. In highperformance liquid chromatography, chiral stationary phases (CSPs) based on strong cation exchanger were employed using mixtures of methanol and acetonitrile or tetrahydrofuran as mobile phase systems with organic salt additives.

This study presents a novel mixed-mode weak cation-exchange (WCX) material. This material was prepared by means of the functionalization of a mesoporous divinylbenzene (DVB) resin with maleic acid (maleic acid-DVB), which yielded a high carboxylic moiety content resulting in WCX interactions as well as suitable specific surface area for reversed-phase interactions.

This work describes the direct hyphenation of cation exchange chromatography (CEX) with a compact, easy-to-use benchtop Time of Flight mass spectrometer (ToF/MS) for the analytical characterization of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs). For this purpose, a wide range of commercial mAb products (including expired samples and mAb biosimilars) were selected to draw reliable conclusions.

Cation-exchange chromatography is a widely used approach to study charge heterogeneity of monoclonal antibodies. Heterogeneity may arise both in vitro and in vivo because of the susceptibility of monoclonal antibodies to undergo chemical modifications.

The phenomenon of pH excursion was demonstrated for pH gradient elution of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) on strong cation exchange resins under high overloading conditions. The mAbs differed in molecular structure and isoelectric point, and the resins in matrix structure and ligand density. In all cases, elution of the proteins was accompanied with distortion of the concentration, pH and conductometric profiles.

The fluorination reaction is strongly influenced by the nature of the intrapore cation. Intrapore Brønsted acids facilitate fluorination of the framework by in situ ion-exchange, releasing the acidic ions to the zeolite surface.

A hydrated complex of 1,10-phenanthroline with Cu2+ cation was intercalated in the interlayer space of montmorillonite. This intercalation occurs initially by through a cation exchange mechanism in which the charge of the complex cation compensates the excess of the negative charge of the interlayer, then, once the cation exchange capacity (CEC) value has been reached, by direct adsorption of the sulfate salt of this complex (i.e. the cation together with its sulfate counterion).
