Rhizobium tropici, a member ofthe Rhizobiaceae family, has the ability to synthesize and secrete extracellular polysaccharides (EPS). Rhizobial EPS have attracted much attention from the scientific and industrial communities. Rhizobial isolates and R. tropici mutants that produced higher levels of EPS than the wildtype strain SEMIA4080 were used in the present study.

The production of a chitin-like exopolysaccharide (EPS) was optimized through experimental design methods, evaluating the influence of urea, phosphate, and glucose. Under optimized conditions, up to 1.51 g/L was produced and its physicochemical characteristics were evaluated by chromatography, NMR, and FTIR spectroscopy, and rheological techniques.

The structures of the products were established by the methods of TLC, IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The purification of trehalose lipids from crude extract was carried out using silica gel column chromatography, one of the trehalose lipids fractions was identified as a trehalose dimycolate. The presence of (NН) group was detected in the exopolysaccharide. For the first time, a biodegradable polymer was isolated from bacteria cells of the strain R. erythropolis Au-1, іt was identified as the polyhydroxyalkanoate.

The present study was focused to select hyper exopolysaccharide producing and cyst forming Azotobacter isolates of rice from different locations of Tamil Nadu for better performance under the stress conditions prevailing in the rice ecosystem. The factors influencing cyst formation and exopolysaccharide (EPS) production in Azotobacter isolates and the performance of the isolates at different moisture regimes and fertilizer Nitrogen (N) levels in rice under pot culture conditions were also investigated.

Mycelial growth and exopolysaccharide production of Fomitopsis feei was studied in common production medium by changing different physiological parameters such as carbon, nitrogen sources, inoculum size, incubation time, pH, temperature, agitation. Glucose, ammonium sulphate, 6mm of inoculum, 8th and 14th days of incubation, pH 3, 30°C temperature and 150 rpm agitation were the best for the production of mycelium.

Both biotic and abiotic stresses are major constrains to agricultural production. Under stress conditions, plant growth is affected by a number of factors such as hormonal and nutritional imbalance, ion toxicity, physiological disorders, susceptibility to diseases, etc. Plant growth under stress conditions may be enhanced by the application of microbial inoculation including plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR).

Stress tolerant Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) are the rhizosphere bacteria that can enhance plant growth under stress condition. In our present study, 32 stress tolerant PGPR strains (8 Rhizobium. 8 Pseudomonas, 8 KRB, 8ZSB) were isolated from the rhizosphere soils of blackgram crop and screened for their ACC deaminase and Exopolysaccharide (EPS) production. Out of 32 isolates four isolates (1 Rhizobium. 1 Pseudomonas, 1 KRB, 1 ZSB) were selected on the basis of their ACC deaminase activity and Exopolysaccharide production.

The xanthan gum is an exopolysaccharide of the microbial origin, produced by the bacteria of the Xanthomonas spp. In the present study Xanthomonas spp were obtained from cabbage leaves and lemon sample. The isolates were coded as SC1 and SC4. From various cultural, morphological and biochemical characteristics the bacteria were identified as belonging to Xanthomonas spp. The bacteria were then tested for production of Xanthan in the fermentation medium. Measurement of viscosity and residual sugar was carried out. The effect of different carbon sources on its production was also tested.

Food is the basic necessity of mankind. Human gastrointestinal tract resident microflora contains good bacteria that extend therapeutic benefits which are termed as Probiotics. The use of probiotics, prebiotics that stimulates probiotics and synbiotics which is a combination of pro and prebiotics improve the gut homeostasis, has been blooming for the past decade. Recent work on relevant probiotic strains has also led to the isolation and characterisation of certain probiotic derived metabolites called as postbiotics.

Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are a key element in the dairy industry. The gene products encoded by the plasmids of LAB carry out fermentation. To date, many successful plasmid isolation studies have been conducted with Escherichia coli, Staphilococcus, Streptococcus, Salmonella, Listeria and many strains of LAB. However, since LAB comprise a conglomerate of seven different genera, each with its own physiological and morphological characteristics, and produce a large amount of exopolysaccharide coat, it is extremely difficult to obtain plasmids by conventional methods.

Exopolysaccharides (EPSs) play an extensive role as biopolymers in the environment by replacing synthetic polymers as they are degradable, nontoxic, and produced by microorganisms. An attempt was made to optimize a medium, by the one-factor-at-a-time method, for an enhanced production of EPS from a soil isolate, Bacillus subtilis.
