Besides, Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) and fertility regulation activities, Integrated management of Childhood Illnesses (IMCI) is also playing an important role in child survival through reducing child mortality and morbidity and promoting child growth, development and healthy practices. Effective implementation of IMCI case management guidelines improved quality of care in health facilities across various settings in Bangladesh. Considering its impact at a low cost, government plans gradual expansion of IMCI programme in the country.

Rapidly expand access to diversified HIV testing and counselling services. HIV testing must be voluntary, confidential and accompanied by appropriate counselling, whether initiated by the client or the provider. Accelerated uptake of rights-based testing and counselling services for adults and children is required for prevention and early diagnosis and referral (as required) to care and treatment programmes and to support safe disclosure of HIV status.

World health statistics 2007 presents the most recent health statistics for WHO’s 193 Member States. This third edition includes a section with 10 highlights of global health statistics for the past year as well as an expanded set of 50 health statistics. World health statistics 2007 has been collated from publications and databases produced by WHO’s technical programmes and regional offi ces. The core set of indicators was selected on the basis of their relevance to global health, the availability and quality of the data, and the accuracy and comparability of estimates.

The World Health Organization, for example, first developed the Expanded Programme on Immunization and subsequently the Programme for the Control of Diarrhoeal Diseases. UNICEF chose four specific interventions on which to focus: growth monitoring, oral rehydration therapy, breast- feeding promotion, and immunization, known by the acronym GOBI. It later added three more (food, family planning, and female education).
