In the last 10 years interest and activity in urban sonic design has expanded. The way we listen to, think about and understand sound determines the way we value, manage and design with it. However practitioners in the area would benefit from detailed forms of site documentation and analysis that go beyond physical sound measurement. This Masters explores the use of the Sonic Identity Model developed by Pascal Amphoux of CRESSON (the Centre for Research on Sonic Space and Urban Environment) in the early stages of urban sonic design.

Analytical expressions for the anharmonic effective potential, local force constant, Displacement-displacement Correlation Function (DCF) CR and Debye-Waller factor described by the Mean Square Relative Displacement (MSRD) σ2 and by the Mean Square Displacement (MSD) u2of bcc crystals in the X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (XAFS) have been derived. The effective interatomic potential of the system has been considered by taking into account the influences of nearest atomic neighbors, and it contains the Morse potential characterizing the interaction of each pair of atoms.

2-Aminoethoxydiphenyl Borate (2-APB) has been extensively used recently as a membrane permeable modulator of inositol-1,4,5-trisphosphate-sensitive Ca2+ channels and store-operated Ca2+ entry. Here, we report that 2-APB is also an inhibitor of sarco/endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+ATPase (SERCA) Ca2+ pumps, and additionally increases ion leakage across the phospholipid bilayer. Therefore, we advise caution in the interpretation of results when used in Ca2+ signalling experiments.

Small-angle neutron scattering experiments were performed on horse azidometmyoglobin (MbN3) at pressures up to 300 MPa.Other spectroscopic techniques have shown that a reorganization of the secondary structure and of the active site occur in this pressure range. Staphylococcalnuclease is a single domain protein with 149 amino acids. It has no disulfide bonds, which makes it a simple model for the study of pro-tein folding. In this study, 20 mutants of this protein were generated each with a single base substitution of glycine for negatively charged glutamic acid or aspartic acid.
