Tackling multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli requires evidence from One Health studies that capture numerous potential reservoirs in circumscribed geographic areas. Methods: We conducted a survey of extended β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing E. coli isolated from patients, canals and livestock wastewater in eastern Thailand between 2014 and 2015, and analyzed isolates using whole genome sequencing.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an increasing global health concern reducing options for therapy of infections and also for perioperative prophylaxis. Many Enterobacteriaceae cannot be treated anymore with third generation cephalosporins (3GC) due to the production of certain 3GC hydrolysing enzymes (extended spectrum beta-lactamases, ESBLs).

. This study was carried out on 120 urine specimen collected from catheterized patients, aged between 20-70 yrs. The screening for ESBL production was done by the disc diffusion test as recommended by the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute(CLSI) and confirmed by the phenotypic disc confirmatory test (PDCT) and ESBL Hi Crome agar(Hi media-Mumbai).

The study was aimed to detect the occurrence and characterize extended-spectrum (ESBL) and AmpC (ACBL) beta-lactamases producing pathogenic E. coli (STEC) in diarrhoeal faecal samples collected from bovines. All the E. coli strains (13/21, 61.9%) isolated from bovine diarrhoea cases (n=21) were found to be ESBL producers. In total, 11 (84.6%) isolates were positive in cefoxitin– cloxacillin double-disc synergy (CC-DDS) test for AmpC production and the isolates were also confirmed by PCR for blaAmpC.

Extended spectrum beta lactamase producers are posing a major obstacle in the therapeutic outcome of patients. They cause enzymatic hydrolysis of the beta lactum ring, resulting in resistance to penicillins and cephalosporins. The rise in ESBL producers results in prolonged treatment which leads to increased hospital stay and financial burden on the patient. It is necessary for all the hospitals to monitor ESBL producers to formulate preventive and therapeutic measures accordingly. The study was conducted in a tertiary care hospital during the period from December 2015 to November 2016.

The aim of the study was to determine resistant pattern of urinary isolates and occurrence of extended spectrum beta- lactamase (ESBL) and Amp C production in them. Patients clinically suspected to be having urinary tract infection (UTI) were included in the study. This study was conducted in the Department of Microbiology, G. S Medical College & Hospital, Pilkhuwa, Uttar Pradesh over a period of 9 months from August 2016 to April 2017.

Escherichia coli is the most common organism causing urinary tract infection (UTI). This organism has the ability to produce Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamases (ESBLs), which confer multiple drug resistance making urinary tract infection difficult to treat. So treatment of UTI requires constant updating of the antibiotic sensitivity profile. Objectives of this study were to detect prevalence of ESBL production among E. coli isolates causing urinary tract infection and to detect their antibiotic susceptibility pattern.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a gram negative bacillus that colonizes in moist environment of the hospital settings with occurrence of antimicrobial resistance. Increasing resistance to beta-lactam drugs, especially the 3rd-generation cephalosporins, in Pseudomonas aeruginosa is predominantly due to the production of extended spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs). This was a laboratory based observational study carried out over a period of 7 months from April 2019 to December 2019.

Antimicrobial resistance is a growing threat worldwide. Increasing resistance to third generation cephalosporins has become a cause for concern. The prevalence of extended spectrum–lactamases (ESBLs) and metallobetalactamases (MBL) among members of Enterobacteriaceae constitutes a serious threat to current -lactam therapy leading to treatment failure. A total of 276 Gram negative isolates were processed. ESBL was detected by phenotypic confirmatory disc diffusion test (PCDDT) using ceftazidime alone and in combination with clavulanic acid.

Microbiological infection plays vital role in determining the outcome as well as cost and duration of the hospital stay for patients admitted in ICU setup. Of late nosocomial infections especially ventilator associated pneumonias (VAP) have been recognized to be associated with significant morbidity and mortality in intubated patients. It is of critical importance to do regular surveillance of important pathogen (like Methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), extended spectrum beta lactamase (ESBL) and carbapenemase producers) and its resistance pattern.

Urinary tract Infections caused by extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL), producing Klebsiella pneumoniae are on a rise all over the world with high morbidity and mortality. This study was carried out to determine the presence of TEM, SHV and CTX-M genes in extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) producing Klebsiella pneumoniae. A total of 300 Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates were collected and identified using traditional culturing and biochemical tests.
