  • This study investigated the impact of heterogeneity of crosslinking on a range of physical and mechanical properties of calcium alginate networks formed via external gelation with 0.25–2% sodium alginate and 2.5 and 5% CaCl2. Crosslinking in films with 1–2% alginate was highly heterogeneous, as indicated by their lower calcium content (35–7 mg Ca⋅g alginate− 1 ) and apparent solubility (5–6%).

  • This present study carried out sample collections along the coast of Southern Viet Nam, including the coast sites, offshore islands, and Spratly (Truong Sa) islands. External morphological and anatomical characteristics of two dominant species, Halimeda macroloba and H. opuntia, were caparisoned. The genetic marker tufA was applied to find the haplotype diversity and network among Vietnamese and worldwide populations.

  • Macrophages are equipped with several receptors for the recognition of foreign particles and pathogens. Upon binding to these receptors, particles become internalized. An interaction of particles with macrophage surface receptors is accompanied by an increase in cytosolic calcium concentration.

  • Calcium is an extraordinarily versatile signaling ion, encoding cellular responses to a wide variety of external stimuli. In neurons, mitochondria can accumulate enormous amounts of calcium, with the consequence that mitochondrial calcium uptake, sequestration and release play pivotal roles in orchestrating calcium-dependent responses as diverse as gene transcrip-tion and cell death.

  • The production of free radicals (ROS) is an unavoidable consequence of life in an aerobic environment. Free radicals produced from the metabolic activities of oxygen attack biological membranes and lipoproteins via oxidation in a process called lipid perioxidation. This attack damages cells and lipids often in a chain reaction with carbon-based molecules such as polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) in a reaction with molecular oxygen. This creates oxidative stress and damage to tissues. Free radicals also damage chromosomal DNA.

  • We thought that the transurethral approach to treat prostate cancer might bring better clinical results in the era of more improved resectoscope and more sensitive PSA test for the follow-up examination. We applied the transurethral technique to manage prostate cancer with the intention to eliminate almost all prostate tissues that contained localized cancer.
