External morphology

This study was carried out in 2021-2022. By referencing published scientific documents and reviewing museum specimens stored at the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources, we have established the List of Vietnam Rodents updated to 2022 including 71 species and 22 subspecies of 34 genera and seven families.

A taxonomic study on the genus Ectopioglossa Perkins from Vietnam is presented. Two species, E. henseni Gusenleitner, 1990 and E. taiwana (Sonan, 1938), are recorded as new to the vespid fauna of Vietnam. A key to the Ectopioglossa species known from Vietnam is also provided based on external morphological characters.

This present study carried out sample collections along the coast of Southern Viet Nam, including the coast sites, offshore islands, and Spratly (Truong Sa) islands. External morphological and anatomical characteristics of two dominant species, Halimeda macroloba and H. opuntia, were caparisoned. The genetic marker tufA was applied to find the haplotype diversity and network among Vietnamese and worldwide populations.

The Southeast Asian Shrews (Crocidura dracula & C. fuliginosa) are so similar in external morphology and skull characters. Thus, their taxonomic status and distribution have debated for a long time. Recent researches provided the molecular identification which caused the change of outlook on occurrence area of these two species.

These adaptations are the sharp weapons used by the small parasites to fight against the harsh environment surrounding it. In mammals, skin is the largest of the body's organs which provides an immediate and excellent barrier between the internal tissues and external environment. Dendritic cells are antigen presenting cells which regulate the immune responses. The present study, aimed to describe the morphology and distribution of dendritic cells present among the skin of cattle, buffalo, sheep and goat. Dendritic cells were stained using Osmium tetroxide solution. The dendritic cells were mostly located in the basal layer at epidermis except small ruminats wherein the cells were mostly in the dermis.

A study was conducted on the gross features of the splenchnocranium of an aged great Indian horned owl and its morphological peculiarities were correlated with its possible functions. The horizontal plate of ethmoid was wide and well developed. The lacrimal was very large and the lower orbital ring was incomplete. The external nares were oval in shape. The premaxilla was steeply curved down and had a hooked tip. The maxilla was highly reduced and formed a movable articulation with the palatine and zygomatic bone.

Otomycosis is an acute, subacute or chronic fungal infection of the external auditory canal. It is worldwide in distribution with a higher prevalence in the hot, humid, and dusty areas of the tropics and subtropics. A wide variety of fungi can cause Otomycosis. In this study, our aim was to determine the most common mode of presentation, predisposing factors, and the spectrum of fungi involved in Otomycosis. 60 Ear discharge samples were collected aseptically using two sterile cotton swabs. One swab was used for direct microscopic examination and used for fungal culture.

The eye may be infected from external sources or through intraocular invasion of microorganisms carried by the blood stream. The common eye infections caused by bacterial and fungal pathogens are blepharitis, conjunctivitis, internal and external hordeolum, keratitis, dacryocystitis. Timely institution of appropriate therapy must be initiated to control the infections and thereby minimize the ocular morbidity.

To keep the time and space usage during parsing within bounds, information from external sources like Part of Speech (PoS) taggers and morphological analysers is taken into account when information is constructed for unknown words.
