the results have shown that among twelve isolated bacterial strains, three strains were screened based on their enzymatic potential, and were later identified by 16S rRNA gene sequencing, i.e. showing that the strains belong to the genus Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Bacillus wiedmannii with a similarity percentage of 99.33% and 100%, respectively, with their corresponding type of strains.

A100-kDa proteinwith endoglucanase activitywas purified from Triton X-100 extract of cells of the thermoacidophilic Gram-positive bacterium Alicyclobacillus acidocaldarius. The enzyme exhibited activity towards carboxy methyl cel-lulose and oat spelt xylan with pH and temperature optima of 4 and 80
C, respectively. Cloning and nucleotide sequence analysis of the corresponding gene (celB) revealed an ORF encoding a preprotein of 959 amino acids which is consistent with an extracellular localization.

The extracellular bga1-encoded b-galactosidase of Hypocrea jecorina (Trichoderma reesei) was overexpressed under the pyruvat kinase (pki1) promoter region and purified to apparent homogeneity. The monomeric enzyme is a glycoprotein with a molecular mass of 118.8 ± 0.5 kDa (MALDI-MS) and an isoelectric point of 6.6.

Chitinase-like proteins have been identified in insects and mammals as non-enzymatic members of the glycoside hydrolase family 18. Recently, the first molluscan chitinase-like protein, namedCrassostrea gigas(Cg)-Clp1, was shown to control the proliferation and synthesis of extracellular matrix components of mammalian chondrocytes.

Endo-1,5-a-l-arabinanases are glycosyl hydrolases that are able to cleave the glycosidic bonds of a-1,5-l-arabinan, releasing arabino-oligosaccharides and l-arabinose. Two extracellular endo-1,5-a-l-arabinanases have been isolated from Bacillus subtilis, BsArb43A and BsArb43B (formally named AbnA and Abn2, respectively).
