Extraction technique

Since the early days, natural products have played a significant role in drug discovery and development. However, the extraction process of these compounds often includes many complex steps, consumes a lot of energy and a large volume of solvents, which can have a significant impact on the environment as well as human health. Therefore, it is necessary to find better ways to improve the yield of extraction, while minimizing risks that may affect the environment and humans.

We describe Joshua (Li et al., 2009a)1 , an open source toolkit for statistical machine translation. Joshua implements all of the algorithms required for translation via synchronous context free grammars (SCFGs): chart-parsing, n-gram language model integration, beam- and cubepruning, and k-best extraction. The toolkit also implements suffix-array grammar extraction and minimum error rate training. It uses parallel and distributed computing techniques for scalability.

The major aims of this project centred around building capacity in protected cropping systems, trialling these systems with tomatoes and cucumbers in Vietnam and introducing farmers and other supply chain partners to these systems.
