F2 populations for yield attributes

Availability of variability for yield and related traits is limited in the cultivated germplasm of chickpea. So the evaluation of backcross and F2 population derived from the cross of chickpea variety GPF2 with 2 accessions of its wild relative Cicer reticulatum viz., EC556270 and ILWC21 was done for yield and related traits. A wide variation was observed for all the characters. There were progenies out yielded the parents in most of the characters.

Cotton is a crop of prosperity having a profound influence on men and matter. The assessment of genetic variability is prerequisite for organization of breeding programmes in any crop. Experiment on estimation of genetic variability parameters in F2 population of cross a RHAP 24 × RHAP 15 was carried out at College of Agriculture, UAS Dharwad during kharif 2016-17.

Distribution pattern of segregants and heritability estimates in paddy (Oryza sativa L.) crop for 12 quantitative traits in two F2 populations derived from the cross AD 16019 x ADT43 and AD16019 x WGL 14377 was studied at TRRI, Aduthurai during 2016-18. Platykurtic symmetrical curve for the traits with positive skewness was registered for the traits 1000 grain weight and single plant yield.

The present investigation was assessed using 100 F2 individuals, their parents and F1 for characters days to flowering, plant height, panicle length, productive tillers per plant, number of grains per panicle, grain yield per plant, straw yield per plant and harvest index. These traits are most important for identification of good segregating plants or genotype. Here, in the present study F2 population was developed from the cross between GAR-13 (improved and high yielding cultivar) and Lalkada (local landrace).

The present investigation was aimed to assess the extent of genetic variability in 250 F2 population of cross, Phule Utkarshi × Arka Anamika for fruit yield and its component traits along with parents as checks which was carried out at the ZAHRS Navile, Shivamogga during kharif-2018. The analysis of variance revealed the existence of significant amount of variability for all the traits studied in the segregating population.

Exploiting the production potential of high yielding rice varieties through agronomic management is one of the alternatives to feed the ever growing population. For this, fertilizers from different sources and modern planting techniques have contributed substantially to the spectacular increase in rice yield and to improve soil properties. In order to study the effect of planting techniques and integrated nutrient management in rice.

The recombinant inbred lines (RILs) serve as useful source of pure-lines with desired combination of traits. Also, the chances of recovering high-yielding genotypes from RIL population are higher than those recoverable from F2 populations handled through pedigree breeding. The 157 RILs derived from HACPI 3and 144 RILs derived from HACPI 6 and three check entries [HA 3, HA 4 and kadalavare] of dolichos bean were evaluated for six qualitative traits and nine quantitative traits at the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Bengaluru, India, during 2014 and 2015 rainy seasons.
