The use of embroidery to decorate clothes has been around since man began to wear clothes. As a method of decorating and embellishing clothing, embroidered designs came out as a result of hard work and care. Embroidery as an art has origin that can be traced far back to the Iron Age. This journey began when primitive man discovered that he could use thread to join pieces of fur to make clothes. India has a rich heritage of embroideries.

Revival of traditional embroidery painting is considered as an important aspect in present scenario. A study was conducted to explore the possibility of adaptation of kathiawar embroidery motifs for fabric painting. Seventy collected kathiawar embroidery motifs were categorized as geometrical, floral and animal & bird motifs and were screened into thirty motifs keeping in mind their suitability for fabric painting on jacket. These three categories included ten motifs each. Thus, a total of thirty motifs were finalized for further research work.

Carbon materials have been attracting intensive attention especially after the discoveries of fullerenes in 1985 and graphene in 2004. Our aim is to develop an efficient, low-cost and largescale synthesis method of a carbon material called porous carbon, which is a collection of nanoscale mono- and multi-layer graphene flakes. This work presents the method of producing porous carbon and the capability of electromagnetic shielding of a typical commercial paint reinforced by the fabricated carbon material.
