A total of 48 epiphytic lichen species were found on the various tree species (Abies nordmanniana (Stev.) Spach subsp. bornmuelleriana (Mattf.) Coode & Cullen, Fagus orientalis Lipsky, and Pinus nigra Arnold. subsp. pallasiana (Lamb.) Holmboe) that formed communities on the north-west, extending from 1300 to 1600 m altitudes, of Mt. Uludağ in Bursa.

This shows that adverse environmental conditions, mostly associated with a lower pH content of the soil under spruce stands, retard decomposition processes and individual litters appear to be more sensitive to this retardation than mixed litters.

The aim of this research was to determine the effects of bleaching chemicals on the bending strength of wood. For this purpose, sodium hydroxide + hydrogen peroxide, sodium hydroxide + calcium hydroxide + hydrogen peroxide, hypochlorite and hydrochloric acid were applied to pine (Pinus sylvestris L.), oriental beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky), ash (Fraxinus excelsior L.) and oak (Quercus petraea spp.) for bleaching.

Partitioning gross rainfall (GR) into throughfall (TF), stemflow (SF), and interception loss (I), which has a very significant effect on water balance and the nutrient cycle in forest ecosystems, was studied in a natural oriental beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) forest situated in the Caspian Forest of northern Iran.

Commercial timbers from Turkey used in coastal construction and boat building were tested for their resistance to marine wood-boring invertebrates in a marine trial and in a laboratory screening test. The timbers tested were beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky), oak (Quercus petraea (Mattuschka) Liebl.), chestnut (Castanea sativa Mill.), and Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.).

Geographical variation in soluble sugar concentrations in seeds from oriental beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) trees of different origins in Turkey was determined using high performance liquid chromatography. The results demonstrated that the most significant soluble sugars, in order of importance, were sucrose, glucose, and fructose.

The site index conversion equations are important for estimating the site index of one tree species from the site index of another tree species in mixed stands. In this study, data were obtained from 162 sample plots in mixed stands of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) and Oriental beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) from the Black Sea Region in the north of Turkey.

Data from stem analysis of 397 dominant trees (198 Scots pine and 199 Oriental beech) were used to evaluate dynamic base-age invariant site index models derived from Bertalanffy–Richards, Hossfeld, and Lundqvist–Korf functions with the generalized algebraic difference approach (GADA) for mixed Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) and Oriental beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) stands.

In this study it was proposed to investigate the effect of altitude and aspect on anatomical properties, wood density, and mechanical properties of Oriental beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) growing in Sinop, Turkey. Five altitude steps (0–200, 200–400, 400–600, 600–800, and 800–1000 m) and two aspect groups (north and south) were created in the research area.

The objective of study was to evaluate some of the physical and mechanical properties of medium density fiberboard (MDF) panels laminated with veneer sheets compressed at different levels of pressure and temperature. Rotary peeled veneer samples of European beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) were compressed at temperatures of 150 C, 180 C, and 200 C using 4 MPa and 6 MPa pressure for 8 min. Commercially produced MDF samples also were laminated with such compressed veneer sheets.
