Families of the farmer

The ability of farmers in the village's economic life is very varied and tends to be in a weak position, especially in terms of saving skills. This study aims to determine the influence of socioeconomic factors on the ability to save, pull, and push elements of farmers to keep and resource savings fund farmers. This research is a case study in Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatera, where 60 people from 312 populations of paddy rice farmers were sampled purposively.

A policy of high rice prices can increase paddy farm incomes but also cause a rise in rice expenditures for farm households. Such a policy is needed to stimulate production but can harm rice consumers, especially poor families. We surveyed 284 paddy farmers in Gantar Sub-District, Indramayu Regency, Indonesia to analyze the impact of increasing rice prices on farmers’ net incomes, including poor paddy farmers. We found that a price increase benefits farmer if the price transmission elasticity is more than 0.2 for non-poor paddy farmers or 0.6 for poor paddy farmers.

The study conclude that majority of the respondents belonged to young age group and had high school level of education. Majority of the respondents had pucca house with land holding up to 1 ha. And high level of farming experience. Majority of the respondents had low family annual income. Majority of the respondents had medium extension participation, scientific orientation and innovativeness with medium risk orientation towards Sardar Smruti Kendra.

Flower cultivation is considered to be lucrative and high returned agribusiness. The present case was documented for a flower cultivating family (Thakur family) in Mahog village of Solan district of Himachal Pradesh, India. The observation revealed that flower cultivation is a profitable business but contains challenges in many respects. The flower cultivation family considers that there is a need to diversify the flower business to Ecofloriculture for secure and sustainable future.

A study was conducted in Navsari district of South Gujarat to know the level of information seeking behaviour of animal enterprise holders of FIGs. A sample of 120 FIGs members was selected for the study. This study revealed that majority (84.17 per cent) of the FIGs members had medium level of information seeking behaviour followed by those with lower level (14.17 per cent) and higher level (1.67 per cent) information seeking behaviour.

The study was conducted in district Saharanpur during 2014 to investigate the socioeconomic profiles of rural rice farmers. To this end, primary data was collected through structured questionnaire using a sample of size eighty allocating to four block selected purposively, each comprising two villages selected on the basis of proportional sampling technique. Rice farmers were found associated with agriculture sector. Major occupations were teaching and daily wage earners.

Black night shade (Solanum nigrum L.) belongs to the family ‘Solanaceae’ is an important medicinal plant which has tremendous medicinal value. The plant contains alkaloids like solamargine, solanigrine and solasonine. The herb is credited with emollient, antiseptic, leucoderma, piles, ulcer, asthma and eye troubles. Makoi leaves are also known to suppress carcinogenesis and have high market value. Farmers growing this crop will also get high net return.

The study revealed that most of the sheep farmers in the western ghat region of Virudhunagar district belonged to age group of 35 to 50 years were illiterate and lived in a nucleus family. Nearly 86.29% of sheep farmers were landless but 89.63% owned house, average flock size was more than 50, and were maintained by grazing for more than 6 hours per day.

A Front Line Demonstration (FLD) on Demonstration of Nutri Farms for year round nutrition security among farm families was implemented by ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bagalkot for the year 2018-19 in ten women farmers fields at Sunaga village of Bilagi taluak of Bagalkot district with an objective to improve the nutritional status of people vulnerable to micronutrient malnutrition by increasing the year round supply of a diverse range of fruit and vegetables from a household-managed garden.

India is the world's largest milk producer and primarily an agricultural society where animal husbandry is the backbone of the national economy. In Rajasthan, dairying provides millions of marginal farmers and landless labourers for their livelihood so it is a major economic activity of rural people. The state faces constant drought and famine, which often leads to crop failure because most of the agriculture is fed with rain. The present study was conducted at Pandhana block of Khandwa district Madhya Pradesh. The finding of the research revealed that Integrated Pest Management practice by soybean growers. The out of total soybean growers 47.27% had low adoption level of integrated pest management practices and only 5.46% had high adoption level of integrated pest management practices.

An attempt was made to develop a standardized scale to analyze the attitude of farmers towards livelihood diversificationusing summated rating methods suggested by Likert and Edwards. The attitude scale developed was found to be highly reliable and valid. The final attitude scale consisted of 15 statements and this scale was administered to 30 farmers in Chikkaballapura district in Karnataka during 2017-2018 to analyse their attitude of farmers towards livelihood diversification. These farmers were personally interviewed using schedule.

The study was found that the majority of demonstrating farmers did have the high adoption towards Rabi QPM production technology as compared to the non-demonstrating farmers. The differences in adoption of both the categories of farmers were also found to be significant.

A bench mark survey was undertaken to find out the dairy animal management practices followed by the member farmers of dairy co-operative society in randomly selected three talukas of Rajkot district in Saurashtra region of Gujarat state. In each taluka five villages and in each village ten respondents were selected. It was observed that all the respondents milked their animals twice in a day by using wet knuckling method (98%) of milking – Majority of the milked produced generally goes to dairy co - operative society except the amount, which routinely used for family need.

Backyard poultry has recognized as an effective tool for poverty alleviation in the rural areas. However, the level of monthly income from backyard poultry is low still it is an important source of supplementing earnings. It provides eggs and meat for family consumption and, to some extent, cash income thereby, enhances rural livelihoods.
