Family environment as perceived

The family is the basic unit of a society to attribute with biological functions. It is the institution responsible for maintaining and building relationships among family members as well as with the community. The present study has carried out in Hisar district of Haryana state. For the study 200 adolescent i.e. 100 male and 100 female were taken between the age group of 16-18 years. Family Environment Scale developed by Bhatia and Chadha (1993) was used to assess home environment of the adolescent.

The present study was conducted in Hisar city and two villages of Hisar district. Two Government Senior Secondary Schools (one for boys and one for girls) from rural area and two Government Senior Secondary Schools (one for boys and one for girls) from Hisar city were selected at random. The study was conducted with 16-18 years old adolescents. These adolescents were selected from randomly selected four Government Senior Secondary Schools. Total sample constituted of 240 adolescents, 120 from rural area and 120 from urban area. These 240 adolescents included 120 boys and 120 girls.

Following the UNICEF report, a comparative study, carried out by Nairn and IPSOS MORI (2011), compared the lives of children in UK with those in Sweden and Spain, to uncover why the UK was ranked so poorly in relation to children’s well-being. Using subjective indicators, the study found that children perceived spending time with their friends and family, as well as having fun and engaging things to do, as fundamental to their well-being.
